Wright Joins Preston
Wright Joins Preston
Friday, 25th May 2012 19:13

Preston North End have confirmed that released Blues keeper Richard Wright will join them on a Bosman free transfer on July 1st, as reported yesterday. Last month, Wright, 34, was told he would not be offered the chance to extend his third spell with his home town club when his contract is up on June 30th.

League One Preston’s chairman of football Peter Ridsdale said: "Richard's qualities and extensive top level experience will add a vital ingredient to our squad.

“He has won major honours at the top level and represented his country and that sort of knowledge and will to win will be an excellent addition to a squad that is starting to take shape nicely."

Wright has signed a one-year deal.

Wouldn't want to play for Westley. Style of football is more suited to Rugby League....up and under and bundle ball.

One kept help wondering whether he would be in the Euro 2012 squad if he had have stayed at Ipswich rather than moving to Arsenal all those years ago, or at least made sure he was playing first team football after that.

Good luck Wrighty - genuinely hope you have a few good season with Preston, and genuinely hope our decision to release you doesn't come back to bite us on the bum!

I wish him the very best of luck. While things may not have worked out for the best for him playing wise since he left for Arsenal I think that he still has something to offer and it is a pity that he has been released, particularly with no new number one in sightr.

Another very puzzling decision by our management team.We have let the best keeper at the club leave after he had too spend much of the short term contract playing second fiddle to a keeper who will never be good enough to be first choice at championship level. Why oh Why??? Best of luck Plug, will always remember penalty save in play off final.

Have always liked and admired Richard Wright, great club servant, exceptional under George Burley, but not been at his best since. Nice guy, always had time to talk to fans/kids.
Good luck at Preston Mate, hope to see you back as GK coach one day!
