Town Move for Macclesfield Defender
Town Move for Macclesfield Defender

Town are reported to have had a bid accepted for Macclesfield Town right-back Elliott Hewitt. The 17-year-old Wales U21 international is set to leave Moss Rose in the wake of the League Two side's relegation to the Blue Square Bet Premier.

An undisclosed offer is believed to have been accepted and Town given permission to speak to Hewitt, who is also understood to be interesting a number of other clubs, Arsenal, Everton and Chelsea having been linked earlier in the season.

Having made a single first team start in 2010/11 and becoming the Silkmen's youngest-ever player at 16 years and 342 days, the Bodelwyddan-born defender made 19 starts and five sub appearances this season.

Hewitt, who has won five U21 caps in addition to three at U17 level, missed the end of the season after undergoing hip surgery. He was expected to be fit in time for pre-season training.

Building for the future - sweet! Wouldn't expect too much next season though. Only 17 and a big step up...

Elliot Hewlett young quick right-back v highly rated wilnt cost much: wont demand ridiculous wages as he was probably still on a YTS wage at Macclesfield this is what we need talented young players who r grateful too play 4 Ipswich COYB!!!!

touted as the next Bale, scouted by Arsenal, Everton and Chelsea. Would be very pleased to pull this one off

Very good to see, and certainly someone who could really flourish in the next few seasons. Hopefully we can sign him, and get him out on loan to a league one or two club for the first part of next season. In the mean time, we need to get some more players in who are capable of pushing the current occupants of first team places.

Hunt and Lowton on show in the play-off final now. This sounds decent.

Tractor girls - I doubt you remember a players called Wark, Beattie, Burley. These were all signed from smll teams when young and nurtured through our youth ranks. Ok this lad is a bit older but it's defo the way to go.

Looks a very good signing, presumably low fee and low wages too. To be a first team regular at any league club by the age of 17 is hugely impressive.

Is this player number 30 or 31 we have been linked with??. I have lost count. Also lost count at the numpties who seem to know everything about every player. Heard absolutely nothing about this chap.

And to the chap who said about the league 1 play off and the number of users who say we should go for Smithies - well having watched the first 30 mintues - he is extremely dodgy - another case of football manager games over hyping players.!!

Earlier this season; 34 scouts went to watch Hewitt, but he didnt play. So he is VERY highly rated i see.
Anyone seen him?

I am a Macclesfield supporter due to reasons and I have been following the team for a couple of seasons, I am a 100% Ipswich fan although! Hewitt will be a great signing for the team and he will learn from people like Carlos and cresswell! Really happy about this! Shame about maccy's being relegated but they have released a number of players!

Watched him play for the Welsh U21's and he was clearly their best player. Looked really sharp and I've been banging on about this lad for the last few weeks.
