Blues Closing in On Hewitt
Blues Closing in On Hewitt
Monday, 28th May 2012 16:46

Macclesfield Town right-back Elliott Hewitt is understood to be set to undergo a medical at Portman Road this afternoon as the Blues close in on their first signing of the summer. A fee was agreed with the Silkmen last week with talks regarding personal terms having taken place over the last few days.

Wales U21 international Hewitt, who turns 18 on Wednesday, would appear to be viewed as a deputy to skipper Carlos Edwards in the short-term, before ultimately taking over from the veteran Trinidadian.

We understand the Blues made regular trips to Moss Rose to monitor Hewitt’s progress until he picked up a hip injury which required surgery and ended his season in March, leaving him unable to take part in his club's ultimately unsuccessful bid to avoid dropping into the Blue Square Bet Premier.

Up to then Hewitt had made 19 starts and five sub appearances during 2011/12, having become Macclesfield’s youngest-ever player at 16 years and 342 days on the final day of the previous campaign.

Capped five times by Wales at U21 level in addition to three games for their U17s, Hewitt has previously been linked with Arsenal, Everton and Chelsea.

Sounds good, never seen him play but looks promising.

Not sure how long this has been in the pipe line but seems to be moving / happening pretty quick so another good sign.

I'm far happier with signing Hewlett n Ward: he will b excited too play 4 a good family club must have been impressed by the facilities n training ground maybe only 17 but look at N.Powell Crewe only 18 but what a player, every report I've read from Macclesfield fans is he is a fine exciting player, let's hope r other transfer business is more young hungry players not coming 4 ridiculous contracts n wages I'll say it again plenty of good young players in the lower leagues well worth signing COYB!!!!!

Has anybody got any idea how much we have agreed to pay Macc for his services? A quick Google says Arsenal were linked with a £1.75m move for him earlier in the season!

Think it's a good policy to sign someone for the future, i.e if we signed Ward then does he immediately replace our captain, or does he have to wait and get fed up? This probably played a big part in Ward's decision as he is now a straight replacement for Clyne, which we didn't offer such guarantees. Doubt this guy will get fed up initially biding his time, prove you're good enough though and the spot is yours.

taylor15 just because he was linked with arsenal dont meant hes going to be good .. Jamie Peters was linked with chelsea and manchester united before choosing to come to us and he hasnt exactly been a great signing has he haha? But on the other hand, happy about this signing (if he does sign) he will push Carlos for right back now.

Good to see Ipswich doing their business on the quiet last week. While everyone was talking about Ward, it appears Town had already moved on. Hopefully, this deal will get done and more are being worked on that we do not know about....

Good to see some youth in the team! With him, Cresswell and Smith at the back with a new CB too, we should have a solid, young defence! All positive signs! COYB!
