Hewitt Set for Double Celebration
Hewitt Set for Double Celebration
Tuesday, 29th May 2012 18:52

As predicted on Sunday, Macclesfield right-back Elliott Hewitt looks set to celebrate his 18th birthday on Wednesday by completing his move to Town.

The Wales U21 international has been at Portman Road today to undergo his medical and do the paperwork on his switch from the Silkmen, who were recently relegated to the Blue Square Bet Premier.

The deal’s probable completion on Wednesday may relate to rules preventing players aged below 18 from signing terms longer than two years with Town likely to have handed Hewitt a three-year contract, perhaps with the option of an additional season.

The fee is likely to remain undisclosed but is believed to be in the region of an initial £250,000 plus the usual milestone clauses building to significantly higher overall total.

Hewitt’s 2011/12 campaign came to an early end in March due to a hip impingement problem which required surgery and he’s due to spend time rehabilitating at the Lilleshall National Sports Centre in the next few weeks.

Is this the current answer though to our failure to land Joel Ward? Is he set to be back to Edwards or is he set to be back up to another right back?

exactly probably a back up to Edwards, I really can't see us starting him, from League 2 to Championship is a bit of a step up.

great to see us going for young players with ambition who want to come here to better themselves - if he shows up well , there's no reason why he couldn't win a place in the 1st team squad and even allow carlos to move forward .

It makes the signing of an experienced dominant central defender even more important , together with a safe keeper .

hopefully a good signing for town both now and for the future

I really don't understand some of you!! He is young, hungry player with HUGE potential. Has been tracked by TOP premiership teams and all of sudden people have to be negative about how it's too much of a step up etc etc.

Regardless of his age.... If you're good enough thn you're good enough to play. Look at the step up cresswell and drury had to take and they have looked VERY GOOD!!!

Let's be positive and welcome the guy to the squad!! So many people questioned cresswell and he was our best signing last season.. COYB!!!

Don't get me wrong - I'm not thinking he is going to be the next Wayne Rooney etc but IMO this is an exciting signing and goes to show what Jewell is looking for. I'm excited at the prospect that this guy could be the right side version of cresswell!!! Fingers crossed.

i think he can be a good buy, yes he hasnt played much last season yes he was playing league 2 but i dont think we will see the best of him untill maybe the end of next season.
he can learn from edwards and cresswell, this signing isnt just for next season but for the 3 after aswell.

This is a great signing ive heard alot about this boy and its all good, Similar aspects to Bale, You will do for me!! All you people saying league 2 to championship we signed cresswell from a very poor Tranmere side looming at the bottom of league 1 and now look at him, I say give the boy a chance, Now who's next in?? We need Brad Guzan the american stopper, GET HIM IN!!!!!!

Could be first signing, looks like might have nipped in before other clubs got serious, probably because he is injured;but presume medical will make sure he wont turn out to be a sick note.

Good stuff lets hope he lives up to the hype, on a side note is signing for Ipswich a cause for celebration anymore?

parhamblue added 22:40 - May 29
Seasider, not sure the medical can do that. It will probably highlight a risk, which we must all hope pays off. Some managers would walk away when such a risk is highlighted, others would not get this far. Others would take the risk according to the nature of the injury and the potential / track record of the player.
