Huddersfield Release Ex-Blues Duo
Huddersfield Release Ex-Blues Duo
Tuesday, 29th May 2012 20:43

Huddersfield have released former Blues Tommy Miller and Gary Roberts, but have offered ex-Town striker Alan Lee a new deal. The trio, along with striker Jordan Rhodes, were in the Terriers side which won promotion to the Championship by beating Sheffield United 8-7 on penalties after a 0-0 draw in the League One play-off final at Wembley on Saturday.

Rhodes, meanwhile, continues to be linked with Fulham as well as Everton, Aston Villa and Celtic with his potential price claimed to be anywhere between £5 million and £8 million, £3.5 million having previously been mentioned as his likely cost.

The Blues are set to receive an additional top-up as a result of a promotion clause in the deal which took the Scotland international to West Yorkshire in 2009.

Town’s overall fee for Rhodes will climb above the £1 million mark if the 22-year-old striker moves on for even the lowest fees currently being touted with the Blues' sell-on understood to be somewhere around 10-12 per cent of the profit the Terriers receive.

Another ex-Town man, keeper Nick Colgan, has been named Huddersfield’s academy goalkeeping-coach having been on the bench at Wembley.

Elsewhere, one-time Blues loanee Giovani Dos Santos has been linked with a move to Swansea City with the Mexican set to hold talks about his future with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy.

Alex.... Gary Roberts?... are you having a laugh??

Why oh why was he not just sent there on loan, like so many youngsters who didn't have but a fraction of his talent have been before & since? The cash we got up front hardly paid a month's wages for those brought in at that time & certainly made little impact on the £1.7m paid for Tamas Priskin.
Anyhoo, water under the bridge now. Would really have liked Madine from Wednesday, but their promotion will have put an end to that one. I guess Fuller is the most likely Striker option linked that can come in and make an impact so.

Sindre.... to be fair Roberts has just turned 28.

Not past it, just not good enough at Champ level, as evidenced by his release.

Will do a good job for someone at L1 level though.

Prepared to be shot down in flames here. . . Wait for it cause its going to be good-

did anyone truly predict that Jordan would become the quality he is. With the sell on clause we will now be getting a million - admittedly minus initial fee. I would have taken a million for him when he left. Now, if he proves he can do it in the premiership then we missed out...... However if he is pants then good bit of business.

Clegg in!

Why would they release Miller & Roberts and offer Lee a new deal, hardly scoring for fun

Miler worth a punt, and why not put a cheeky 4 million bid for gio

Taylor, we are very unlikely to get Rhodes back.

Let's just have a reality check here. Roberts has played less than 20 games this season. For a League One team. That's Jaime Peters standard.

A 12% sell on clause for Rhodes!?
That was either poorly negotiated or the agents taken a big slice of that cut!

I can't believe anyone would want Roberts or Miller back at Ipswich.

As for Rhodes, I wouldn't have sold him for £1M at the time. Strikers can be worth multi-millions if they come good or, in some cases, just on their potential. If Wickham left Ipswich for £8M+ then Rhodes had to be worth more than £1M. Remember that Priskin cost £1.7M! Terrible judgement from Keane.

If Huddersfield can hold on to him and he does well in the Championship next season, then surely his price tag will go up again. I honestly believe there is a £10m striker there, and if Huddersfield wait a bit, it could mean the Town cut starts to creep up towards the £2m mark.

Glad Huddersfield got promoted, bit of a shame though as I would've liked to see us move in for Jack Hunt & Danny ward..no chance now I guess.

Cooper.... there was uproar when he left, I think many predicted he would go on to big things.

Whats done is done however.

Roberts has been a good player for Huddersfield but was not in the Keane mould so was let go, you have to move on & TBH Rhodes has only had one good season, time will tell with him!

On his day Gary Roberts was a good winger, but he just got less confident the longer he played for us. Whenever i saw Huddrsfield play with Roberts i thought they were a much more potent threat, but i suspect he is more comfortable playing at league 1 level.

Gary Roberts would improve us as ITFC have moved backwards since he left us. However, we need much better players than him.

Yes there were some of us who thought selling Jordan Rhodes was a bad idea. May I remind you that he was sold in order to finance the purchase of Tamas Priskin for 1.5M. I assume you also think that Priskin was a good buy

Everyone can have an opinion. But lets see if Rhodes can actually do it at Championship or Premier League level.

Only then will we know if it was right or wrong.

Rhodes will do it at a higher level but was sold to low level team prepared to take a punt. Wickham was sold to Sunderland and was a fantastic piece of business for Town (he should have stayed with us and actually played but £8m is a lot of cash). Priskin was brought in as an established player and at the time we all got quite excited. Given that we got Chops for around £1m who is proven then the Rhodes deal was probably not a bad bit of business at the time but hindsight is a wonderful thing. No thanks to Miller and Roberts.

Cooper4England, I and many others did, 40 goals in the resers and youths the season before he left told us we had a star.

Pity we also had planks in the managers and CEO's office.

I am sorry but for those that did any research into Priskin, they would have found that Watford fans had become sick of him.

@cooper4england
If i remember correctly, Roy Keane himself stated just the week before Rhodes was sold, that he was an exciting player, who you think is going to score every time he gets the ball, or words to that affect.

So yes, someone did predict that he would be (was already) a quality player.
