Manchester United Keeper Linked
Manchester United Keeper Linked

Town and Watford are being linked with loan moves for Manchester United’s 22-year-old keeper Ben Amos. Blues boss Paul Jewell is very much in the hunt for a new number one this summer with released Red Devil Tomasz Kuszczak understood to be top of his list of targets.

Capped by England from at all levels between U16 and U21, Amos started his career in Crewe’s youth set-up but moved on to Manchester United after being released by the Railwaymen as a 10-year-old.

After spells on loan at Peterborough, Molde in Norway and Oldham, and six cup appearances for United, the Macclesfield-born 6ft 3in tall keeper made his Premier League debut in January. Earlier today, he signed a new three-year deal at Old Trafford.

Jewell has said he ideally wants a permanent number one, but when speaking in April didn’t entirely rule out bringing in another loanee, although without the 24-hour recall clause that saw David Stockdale and Alex McCarthy return early to Fulham and Reading respectively last season.

The Blues would like to sign Kuszczak, who coincidentally was on loan at Watford at the end of 2011/12, but interest from a number of top flight clubs in England and Germany may mean they have to look elsewhere.

Former Peterborough keeper Joe Lewis was sounded out before he joined Cardiff, while Birmingham’s Colin Doyle has also been linked but with sources close to Portman Road playing down the Blues’ interest.

NO! A permanent keeper is what is required!!

I reckon Man Utd may agree to not have a 24 hour recall on Amos. It's not as if he'd suddenly be needed for the first team

I hope we never have a player on loan with a 24 hour release again, left us in trouble more than once last year so definitely need a permanent number 1! i'd prefer Guzan to Kuszczak though.

save the money, go for an unexperienced loan keeper who if it works out we won't be able to sign.

nice one Paul, youth and Div 1 it is.

Lord Ferg will send him to Posh, especially as they are short of a keeper

Can't see PJ go for this after last year's experience, 24 hour recall or not. We want to look to build a defensive unit for the longterm, that know each others movements & can work together almost by instinct. Young guys like Cresswell, Smith & now Hewitt can provide 3/5 of that, but a loan keeper or centre half would just result in having to start again this time next year.

What exactly are you hoping for when you log on to TWTD Walberswick? A new positive story about a quality signing, or speculation about an average or unknown player that lets you have a right good moan? If the rest of your life follows a similar pattern, you must be a very negative influence around family & colleagues and very short on party invites.

Before anyone gets too angry about another loanee keeper, has anybody at the club suggested we are interested in this deal? The only place I have read about it is the mail online who also link Watford but with no evidence that this is true at all.

No way PJ. The goalkeeping issue last season was poor. I want a number goalie on a permenant basis who wants to play for town not someone looking to 'just play'.

I agree a loan keeper is not the answer but would prefer a young one like Amos as a permanent as against Guzan or Kuszcak,

I thought we got stung with 2 loanee goalkeepers last season, and should have learnt our lesson by now ????

Not an ideal situation getting a loan keeper, I would rather a permanent no 1.
Then again he's only 22 and plays for Man Utd so he's gotta be decent.
A season long loan maybe!! Surely there's keepers out there Sheffield weds signed Kirkland on a 2 - 3 year contract.

Yes i agree a permanant keeper is the best choice.Sure PJ would much prefer that too, big mistake 24 hr recall, small mistake but ok for a second choice keeper, season long loan. Hopefull we are just covering all bases.

Goalkeepers reach their prime a lot later in their careers ,would prefer to see an old head between the sticks than other clubs kids

I'll add my "no thanks" to the loanee goalkeeper, as we desparately need a permanent number one.

Calm down everyone.

Note the word 'Linked'

The word is on this site daily and how many times has it resulted in a player signing?

With the other 3 youngsters in the back four, an experianced vocal Number 1 is whats required, as well as an experianced vocal centre back. If you watch the best defences they all have a leader, whether its Rio Ferdinand, Carlos Puyol, JohnTerry, or even someone like Gary Caldwell at Wigan we don't have that strong leader at the back

If there's any truth in this story then Jewell really needs his head examining...we need a permanent no.1!...haven't you learned anything from last season's goalkeeping fiasco man?!

Daniel 9624 - SPOT ON .... as long as it is a SEASON long loan with NO 24 hour recall then what matters most is the EXPERIENCE and ability to organise the back four and "keep them awake" at set pieces. We have missed out on CBs who can do it so it is VITAL we get a keeper who can do so. I guess PJ will also favour a permanent signing but it is the TYPE of player that matters most between the sticks, not the one year temporary versus three years permanent debate! Usually this sort of player is older rather than younger so maybe this guy is not right - but NOT just because a long loan is the only option for him! What is Peter Schmiekel doing (and yes, i Know I probably cannot spell Peter properly!!!!!) Talking of Peter's .. What is Shilts doing these days ? (and yes, there is an "L" in the middle of that word!!!!)
