Town Set to Land Chambers
Town Set to Land Chambers
Wednesday, 4th Jul 2012 16:50

Town appear increasingly likely to complete the signing of former Nottingham Forest skipper Luke Chambers, who underwent a medical and held talks at Portman Road yesterday. The 26-year-old returned home to Nottingham last night with rumours circulating that the move would break down with Leeds and a number of other clubs also believed to be interested.

However, it appears Leeds, whose takeover is believed to be close, have not firmed up their interest in the former Northampton man, who is available on a free transfer, his Forest deal having expired at midnight on Saturday.

As per reports earlier today, it seems Chambers returned home merely to take his time before making what is a big decision.

While a deal may not be done in time for Chambers to join the squad for the first day of pre-season training tomorrow, we understand the deal could well be completed by the end of the week.

I am seriously doubting some of the stuff that appears to be happening at the moment. In addition to Luke Chambers, we were also supposed to be getting the signature of French-Guinean midfielder Cheick Kourouma. Why no further mention of this?

Phil: is it possible that PJ could have his own area on this site? You could make it so nobody else could write anything on it. All we could do, would be read it.

If he's right in the middle of a touchy negotiation, he could just tell us all to be quiet and wait . . . That'd be funny...

I think any Leeds offers would have materialised by now. What we do have to offer LC is almost certainly guaranteed first team football. Maybe Forest have locker deposits that he didn't want to lose....?

Kourouma it's a case of getting all the ends tied up re his previous clubs. As compensation is technically due, clubs need to get agreements in place (probably no cash changing hands) to prevent people coming chasing later. Also international clearance. These are the hold-up.

@bluey420 - let's just wait til the I's are dotted and the T's are crossed! By the way surely the goalkeeper to sign is Ben Williams from Colchester, it just makes sense.

Great signing, hopefully he will be a rock at our defense next season to give us a chance of promotion to the promise land!

I stand by what I said regarding letting Chambers leave the building without signing or at least agreeing terms. All I will say is I think other clubs would have had the pulling power to convince him to sign straight away. All we did was allow more time for his head to be turned.

This is positive news though, can't wait til its all over and he's officially a Town player.

Garv, If I were Chambers I would have wanted a face to face chat with PJ and, apparently, he was still on holiday so, perhaps, everything in the garden is rosy. I do hope so. COYB
