Jewell Confident Chambers Will Sign Next Week
Jewell Confident Chambers Will Sign Next Week
Thursday, 5th Jul 2012 13:34

Town boss Paul Jewell says he’s as confident as he can be that former Nottingham Forest skipper Luke Chambers will be joining the Blues next week. The 26-year-old was at Portman Road on Tuesday for talks, to undergo a medical and to look around the stadium and training facilities.

Jewell, who has Chambers right at the top of his list of potential summer signings, told the club site: "I've met Luke on a number of occasions over the summer to talk football.

“He's very keen to come here and we've been speaking on the phone regularly over the last day or two.

“We're very hopeful it will get done next week, but until it's signed, sealed and delivered, it's not done.

"I've been in football long enough to know that there are a lot of factors in getting a player signed and I've learnt before that you can never be 100 per cent confident, but I'm as certain as I can be at this stage that we're almost there."

Transfers are really becoming a complete nonsense at the moment, why is everything so difficult at our club?

Good news WHEN he signs. Deals always seem to drag out a bit more during the summer. Players, agents, managers, chairmen all go off on holiday post season. The players then have some time to weigh up their options. Its different to the transfer window when the clock is ticking!
I am sure that this will all be sorted early nexy week and we'll have all stressed over nothing!

Would be a top quality addition, i really hope this one goes through. Would like to also see a younger centre half signed perhaps from league 2 who will compete with Smith for the second centre half spot.

Then 2 more high quality signings. A Keeper and Wideman/Forward then that will do i think.

Hmm. Not too sure. If he really wanted to sign for us he would have cone so by now. He is just keeping his options open.

double ur wages and still not signed yet doesnt look gud unless he wants another team to cum in for him, but compared to other teams in championship they are signing for the fun and alot of them were connected to us, so to all you ppl behind the scenes try a bit harder and show them we want premier league footi too

If hes 'very keen to come here' wouldn't he have signed by now? Still don't understand that if hes that good then why aren't other clubs interested??

Good to know they've been in regular contact. Odd that PJ wasn't at the club to meet him on Tuesday, but as long as Chambers signs I don't care!

Some will say how pathetic it is to be pinning so much hope on one defender, but considering Chambers' experience (yet still in his prime) and how under-strength we are in that area, he is a very important signing.

@irishtim, totally agree, if he'd wanted to sign and have a good season, he'd be out there training with the lads now, i personally believe, and i hope i'm wrong, that he wants a club nearer to Notts, so he doesn't have to uproot his family!!!!!!!!

The wait continues.

Does anybody know if there are campsites locally for the Den Bosch game on the 19th ??

Maybe one day, just maybe we will make a hire without letting the world and his dog know who we are after. What we're doing is akin to plugging in a tanoy and broadcasting to the world who we're hoping to sign and when. No chance of that deal being scuppered then...

Stretchstar you are right mate .....
Our once mighty club ain't got a clue how to seal the deals anymore...
Since the evens regime started our deal conversion record is bloody woeful....

As I have said before I thank mr evens for rescuing us out of the mire but we need new direction from top to bottom ( excluding Bryan klug)

rumours reading are tabling a bid for cressy .... hope its not true but every player has their price and with their new money man could be some truth...think that would be a bigger blow than failing to sign chambers!!

In fairness, he would have to look in to schools for the kids, maybe his partner/wife would need to look for a new job in the Ipswich area. Accomodation would have to be sorted. There is a lot to consider...

Cressy is going nowhere...

I concur with some on here in that Chambers is waiting for a deal closer to home. If PJ has been speaking to him over a lengthy period he has had more than enough time to decide whether to move to Ipswich. Not sure about this signing now as how long does it take to make your mind up.

Please not creswell. Fe.k the price. WE need to hold on to our best players or we r doomed to tis division at the best forever.

I'll be amazed if he signs - the whole thing has gone on too long - if he was that keen he would have signed by now.

PJ move on to the next target - if you have one ?

I am so glad I do not work in football and have to deal with this stuff day in-day out, nowadays seems to be the players have so much more leverage than the clubs after them. Why is it not, Mr Chambers here is the clubs offer, you have passed your medical we want you here etc....you have until 5pm Thursdsay to sign or the deal is off the table....instead the player says thanks for the offer, I will get back to you when I am good and ready to figure out my life......we complain out our level....what about the Aresnal fans that have just seen RVP says thanks but no thanks I am done after this year when my contract is up. It certainly is not always the chariman, CEO or Manager at fault for players not signing.....although many on here feel that we don't sign someone it is all Clegg and PJ's fault.....we just have to face facts, players determine where they go o matter what the money or offer involved is.

Offer him another ten quid as a drink to sign today Paul, as we don't want to have to keep wondering all through the weekend, we need some good news asap.
