Jewell: Chambers Talks Have Gone On Through Summer
Jewell: Chambers Talks Have Gone On Through Summer
Friday, 6th Jul 2012 06:00

Blues boss Paul Jewell says his pursuit of former Nottingham Forest skipper Luke Chambers has gone on throughout the summer. The Town manager expects the 26-year-old to put pen to paper once his agent is back in the country next week.

Jewell said: “It’s been going on all summer really. I’ve met him on a number of occasions and have spoken to him quite a lot over the summer.

“He’s a player we’ve been interested in for a while and we’re hopeful we can conclude a deal. I think everything’s agreed but until it’s signed, sealed and delivered you’re never 100%.

“But as sure as we can be without it actually being signed - and I spoke to Luke not 20 minutes ago - everything’s agreed.

“He’s not thinking things over, everything’s all right, he’s just taking his time. His representative’s not in the country. By the time he gets back,” he continued before pausing. “Everything’s agreed.”

Today's Nottingham Post is running an interview with Chambers in which he talks about his time with Forest and off the field family issues during last season.

The Town manager is continuing his search for players and admits that as ever these things have a tendency to drag on longer than he and other managers would like: “It could [stretch on to mid-August].

“I say every year [I’d like to have everyone in early]. I’d say we’re about four players short at the moment and I think if I had them in today, I’d be delighted.”

Meanwhile, Town's first signing of the summer, right-back Elliott Hewitt, has revealed on Twitter that he will wear the number two shirt next season.

Jaime Peters, who wore the number two last term, was wearing the number 23 on his training gear yesterday.

I love football - but hate agents. Makes everything too complicated - and expensive!

My colleague who's a Derby supporter told me Chambers is going there. Seems unlikely and hope it's not true.

Would be nice to see Peters given a decent chance this year.

I'll ask again, who on here lives in the town of Ipswich. I lived there for 25 years and now live in London. It is relevant to the topic.

In what position or whose place would you like to see Peters given another chance ? Poor defensively ,doesnt create and doesnt score ?
Running around a lot and working hard does not make a good player whatever Keane thought

PMSL thought agent worked for player? If my agent was taking part of my wages would tell him to get his a r s e in gear.

What the hell is really the hold up here? He's been talking to the club all summer (presumably meaning since the close of last season?) and still hasn't totally committed, i.e. by signing on the dotted line. Does he really want to come or not?

Like a few others have mentioned on here, I still can't help thinking he is playing for time hoping that the Forest takeover will go through, giving him the chance of negotiating a new deal with them.

I doubt it - but I truly hope there is a Plan B in place ... just in case.

Agree^^! If Jewell has spent so long 'tapping him up' then what the hell is the real problem here? I don't care how confident Jewell is here, the player knows the deal and is happy and has verbally agreed, so a phone call to his agent to discuss things shouldn't take too long should it?

If you're happy with the deal then you sign....it's a simple as that....and he hasn't.

Adam chambers would be a brilliant signing. It will be important to emphasise to him there is a real possibility he will become captain as he has the qualities.

Paul should ensure he stays in touch with him now discreetly whilst respecting his private life and family. The loose ends can then be tied up early next week.

Cant beleive the people on here. This sounds as positive as it could be under the circumstances and still the moaners are having a swipe.

The guy was under contract at a former club until 5 days ago and his agent is away this week so he looks like signing when he gets back. Sounds pretty simple to me and I hope it happens

Mind you I agree with a previous post that the agent should get his ar*e into gear

Good. I was just wondering what the general feel around the town was for the coming season.

Hi guys

I've been reading through your pages recently. Notice that you are mostly excited by Chambers coming to you. Although he had a poor season last year he has been a decent player over the time he has spent with us.

He is finding it hard to leave Nottingham as he has a settled family life here. We are also in the process of a takeover and rumours are that this will be completed on Monday.

My gut feeling is that if he isn't offered anything by the new regime, he will join you guys rather than go to Derby. The only mention of Derby is via message boards and although it is common knowledge that Derby love to take players from us that are out of contract, this time it seems unlikely.

Good luck for the new season

@bigolconner, My General feeling about the upcoming season is that i think we will do ok. Not top six but maybe in the top eight or ten.
I dont think we have the right squad to make the play-offs, but if the likes of Chops, Jet, Bullard and co have a good season then i can see us doing a bit of damage in this league.
I know one thing though, we cannot have yet another pi$$ poor mid table season. It has to be a top ten finish at the very least!
COYB!

Im a town fan living in Notts, chambers is doing his best with the local press saying he doesnt want to leave Forest but he has no option to do so with the current situation there.....

As the NFFC poster above says, i think its a straight forward thing for him, if the takeover happens and they match our deal, i feel he might stay with Forest..... if that doesnt happen by Monday / Tuesday, then id expect to see him with us by the end of next week......

Itll be interesing to see how all the rather bitter forest fans who have been on here (not the above poster i might add) respond if he does stay, being they all seemed to come on here saying he's useless........

And i get the general feeling around town that they dont hold much hope for the upcoming season. That can all change though by bringing in the right players.
Big big season for all those connected with ITFC!

Wow, those Forest fans really don't like him.
Whilst some have argued that his poor form last season was a 'blip', there is almost universal agreement that he is definitely NOT captain material.

So, how come so many people on here seem to think he is?

Unless his agent lives on Jupiter, i'm sure he can get to a fax/scanner machine!!

Excuse me for being pessimistic but ................Derby have lost a CB (Shackell). Derby is in the East Mid's, where Chambers admits his family is settled. He's gone home to think things over!!!!!!!
I'll be happy to be proved wrong next week.

spot on rosseden. I also think he's nervy about playing in a side with a dodgy keeper, no holding man (when Hyam doesn't play) and very attacking full backs. PJ please sign Richard Keogh, a reliable keeper, and play Hyam, we would be so much more solid

StowTractorBoy added 11:48 - Jul 6
Unfortunately I have big doubts over whether this signing will happen. I fear he is waiting for the Forest takeover which reportedly is imminent and he will negotiate new terms. I just hope PJ has not put all his eggs in one basket as I believe we need another centre back anyway.
