Luongo Signs New Spurs Deal
Monday, 23rd Jul 2012 18:17

In addition to completing his season-long loan move to the Blues earlier this evening, midfielder Massimo Luongo has put pen to paper on a new contract tying him to Tottenham until 2014.

The 19-year-old Australian joined Spurs from hometown club APIA Leichhardt Tigers in January 2011 after impressing while on trial.

That looks suspiciously like they are hoping we want to buy him at the end of the loan and making sure they get some sort of fee.

Loan with a view to permanent then obviously.... fingers crossed he does a job.

Alternatively they want to retain sme control by making sure when he goes back he still has a year left on his contract. That's understandable if you ask me, not all clubs are as bad as protecting their assets as us.

Looks more like we won't be signing him at end if they are given him a contract...same as Stockdale.

Why don't we look to develop our own holding midfielder that we own and therefore would see benefit of him having a good season!

Jewell has had a good summer so far, but this is a disappointing signing. We have a few central midfielders on the books but none who have proven they can play week in week out in the Championship and in my eyes Luongo doesn't solve that problem

well that makes it harder to make the deal permanent

my initial thought to this was that TH were worried we might get him on a bosman if he did well here, and were just making sure they kept him after the loan, safeguarding against us getting him, but it could also mean they want us to buy him at the end, so we might get him, we might not at the end, we cant really tell much from this article, other than he must obviously be quite good if Tottenham are offering him a new contract, so lets not get too hung up on this one guys, lets just wait and see if he plays well. itfcjoe: Why don't you think Luongo can solve that problem? Seen him a lot? I am sure you know all his strenghts and weaknesses, making tihs statement? What are his weaknesses? What strenghts does he have? Do you even have a clue?

I would think that Bryan Klug would know all the signs there is about him ???? and he would not want to waste the clubs time and money ?????

NB72 -try re reading my post. "none who have proven they can play week in week out in the championship"

I'm sorry but one sub appearance in your career does not offer any proof that he can be a consistent performer in senior football, nor would 1000 games in reserve football.......

Therefore he does not solve the problem of not having any midfielders on the books who have proven they can play consistently in the Championship!

ITFCJOE - I suspect that Klug knows a good deal more about him than you do having spent a whole season with him.

Vic - I'm not denying this, but there is no way that anyone can know that this guy is ready to play week in week out in the Championship, and we need someone in the centre of park who can as that is a gap in our squad which Luongo doesn't fill

i wonder were hyam will end up?

Roy1. He will end up saving us like last season probably, along with the rest of the pack! Jewel has a lot to thank him (and them) for.

I want to see us have a good season (we've had enough bad ones) - if this guy helps us with that I will be happy. Don't start worrying about anything beyond that!

We only have one holding midfielder at the club in hyam, so maybe this is a bit of competition for him?

Wouldn't there be a fee anyway due to his age?

I admire the positivitely from some - he signs a new contract with Spurs and still people think we are nailed on to sign him permanently! No, this is yet another short term fix. No more - no less. However, and in fairness if he assists in getting us promoted - great! Plus at least this is a season long loan.

I like the fact we gave gone for young unproven talent for a season long loan as opposed to the short term Collins/Andrews thinking of last year.

Wether he joins us obviously depends on how he performs (a new contract doesn't change that) but also on Spurs with a new manager & new ideas and how they do.
