Luongo Can't Wait to Get Started
Luongo Can't Wait to Get Started
Tuesday, 24th Jul 2012 10:44

New loan signing Massimo Luongo says he can’t wait to get going with the Blues. The 19-year-old Tottenham midfielder signed a year-long loan with Town yesterday and also put pen to paper on a new contract with Spurs tying him to the Premier League side until 2014.

Luongo told the club site: "I'm very excited at joining Ipswich. From having a look around the stadium you can see that it's a big club and with this being my first loan deal I'm excited to get going.

"I've been developing at Tottenham but I want to get a taste of first team action and I'm hoping to get that experience here at Ipswich. I'm just really looking forward to starting here now."

Luongo’s only previous senior appearance was at the beginning of last season when he came on as a 71st minute sub in a Carling Cup tie with Stoke and went on to miss the decisive spotkick in a penalty shoot-out.

The Australian U20 international is likely to be involved in Wednesday's pre-season friendly at Cambridge United (KO 7.45pm).

Hope he can have the same effect as Colback did a couple of years ago. Who knows, could be a gem! COYB!

Could be the ideal replacement for Leadbitter, he also misses penalties!

Spurs website reckons his best role is holding midfield, best of luck to him but i hope PJ does not forgett Luke!

I suppose that Hyam was the only 'natural' holding midfielder at the club as Koumoura hasn't officially signed yet (and he is seen as a box to box player anyway), so if Luongo is a defensive midfielder as the Spurs website suggests then the signing makes sense. It will be intriguing to see how Hyam gets on next season. I have always liked his tenacious tackling, graft, and our centre backs really benefit from him sitting in front of them. If he keeps one of Spurs hottest young properties out of the team then we have a real talent on our hands. I seem to recall Stuart Pearce eyeing him for the under 21's only to be disappointed when PJ started Leadbitter instead.

im afraid to say that this signing doesnt really fill me with excitement at all. Being realistic, we aint gunna get promotion this season (i hope i eat my words lol) and baring this in mind i really dont see how this signing is gunna benefit us. I mean, being realistic, lets say we have a good season and we finish in the top 10 and he plays a staring role. How, as a team are we gunna be any further forward than we are now. He wont stay because spurs will want him back and we will be a player down yet again. So how is this going to benefit us for future seasons?? in my opinion it doesnt. lets push OUR youngsters and give them some game time or sign a young midfielder from the lower leagues on a permanent basis. i hpoe this makes some sense lol.

Agree Monkey Blue. Hope he will do well. I've also heard that he is a holding midfielder but also have heard he's a creative midfielder. Any would do!

To all the pessimists, Lets give the lad a chance. Who knows how good he is? I trust Bryan Kluggs opinion. So lets get behind our players & hopefully they will give us something to shout about for the coming season.

The problem with many Town fans is , we have had 11 years of NOTHING to get excited about, so that we have essentially forgotten how to be optimistic.

This season from where Im standing has a wholly different feel to it for once.
Its going to be a good one for us !

I for one wont be writting off our season just yet!! IF by any chance we did get promotion, we might want to buy him and if he wanted to come? it would be hard for Spurs to stop him but i'm a die hard town fan just getting beyond myself.

Wickets :- Nothing wrong with dreaming mate. I'm sure we're not alone in sharing that dream. We're allowed, after the Keane " Nightmare " !

Let's not kid ourselves - he is a SPURS player and wants to be a SPURS player. However, this is a great opportunity for him to impress and like others who have been on loan at clubs in the past - convince the Spurs manager that he deserves a chance in their team the year after - where of course we will be searching again for a replacement.

I wish him well and hope he assist in a promotion challenge this season - after 18 months in charge, that's what's expected of PJ. Let's not forget that Jim and Roy were given about the same time by ME (Jim already having had a year or so before ME came on board) and most importantly the vast majority on this board. I see no reason why PJ should be given any longer to now prove himself.

@irishtim@retroblue, bloody well said guys!! The doubters on here really p*ss me off, as u said, we av ad nothin 2 shout about for years, who cares if he goes back 2 spurs nxt season, as long as he wares the 3 stars with pride, puts in a shift, then good on him. I will wave him off at the end of the season, and wish him well. GET A GRIP you lot, its a young promising talent that we can utilise, well done pj and Clegg. COYB!!!!!!!

jas. we saw considerable improvement in the second half of last season and PJ has now embarked on a rebuilding through youth process, on a really tight budget - something most of us see as admirable. I think that context has to be taken into consideration when comparing with where the team was after 18 months of Jim & the other lad.
We have to recognise that life under ME is very different now to when he came in first & was prepared to pay big money and big wages to achieve success. The failure of Jim, and more significantly RK, to make the top six has led to a financial rethink and PJ has been forced to work in a far more difficult environment. FFP has just copperfastened it.
If we are relegation fodder in November, well then I will probably join you in calling for PJ's head though.

What a lovely weather we have had today by the seaside. Will shortly be leaving for Braintree to see the Reserves;bit expensive to say the least.Pity wont see the new boy but will see a couple of the trialists;but I worry that team we put out wont be strong enough to make a game of it.
Seem to recall that mixture of optimism and pessimism on here last year, hope we do well this year but tight budget not helping.Probably wouldn't get a player as good as Luongo now we seem so cash strapped unless we borrow from a Premiership club.

The fact that spurs have signed him up with AVB there suggests this guy must have serious potential. Let's hope he brings the quality to town.
