Forest Could Move for Delaney
Forest Could Move for Delaney
Wednesday, 25th Jul 2012 09:29

Town’s Irish centre-half Damien Delaney has emerged as a target of Nottingham Forest. The 31-year-old has a year remaining on his Blues deal.

One of this morning’s national newspapers reported that Delaney was due to join Forest having been released by Town this summer and while the Irishman is still in contract with the Blues, there is believed to be interest from the recently taken-over club, although we understand Town are yet to receive an approach.

Forest are short on centre-halves with amongst others Luke Chambers moving on to Town this summer.

New manager Sean O'Driscoll said: "We need to supplement the squad with some defenders because, in this division that is the most important area.

"We have to bring in players with good character, who can develop and use their experience to help the squad."

The Midlanders are also targeting former Blues loanee Danny Collins, who is reportedly on the verge of a £400,000 switch from Stoke.

Delaney is also believed to be interesting Crystal Palace, who previously targeted him in January 2011 when they also made an approach for ex-skipper David Norris.

Although he's not the best we'd be a bit stuffed for cover if he goes, let's hope PJ has some more signings he's working on.

At last!! Get rid of him then sign Richard Keogh and Jack Hobbs from Hull! or someone on loan from the premier league like Ignasi Miquel from Arsenal

At 31, with a year only left on his contract and unlikely to be anything more than cove,r whilst being paid decent wages, a sale now would make sense. Bring in a younger centre-half to compete with Smith. Any kind of fee would be a bonus.

Ironic that we sign one defender from Notts Forest and then sell a defender to Notts Forest. He's not the bad CB that many fans think he is, and I would be disappointed to see him go as he provides us with good cover. However, with a year left on his contract, if he doesn't want to stay long term, we may as well cash in on him now.

Not good that Creswell and Delaney are possibly out of the door at this late stage.

Some people have short memories. He was developing a good raport with Smith and I can remember several goal saving tackles. Might not start every game next season but were's the cover if we lose him - more loan players? We'll never get out of tis division with that policy and even if we did it would be straight back down. We need to show ambition otherwise we will lose players like Cressie - please god no!!!!

Sell Him, NEVER sell Cresswell!

With Clegg at the helm he will do it the other way round!

Presumably Delaney was due to play tonight alongside Chambers?

I have just booked the rest of the day off to give him a lift up to Nottingham.

Would rather keep him but we do at least have ainsley and wight that can play at cb, how did those two do last night does anyone know?

Despite the morons who wouldn't know a half decent defender if one fell on them who are ditching Delaney he's a good servant to the club. I wouldn't blame him if he went as he deserves better than our moronic fans.

Not bad on his day but probably not likely to get offered a new deal at present so best to get a sum for him. Would definitely need another CB if he went though

I guess we'll find out tonight what, if anything, is happening about both Delaney and Cresswell. I personally hope this is just paper talk and both of them are in the starting lineup tonight. I much preferred the way things were going this time yesterday!

This is good business, any fee we can get for him would be great.
Another defender in for cover i'd say, but we do have some good young lads coming through

"One of this morning's national newspapers reported that Delaney was due to join Forest HAVING BEEN RELEASED BY TOWN this summer "

Any truth in this? No-one else has (yet) picked it up from the above so have I misunderstood ... PHIL ??? ANYONE ???

Not my favourite player but not as bad as some make out ! Chambers and Smith would be my first choice so he might just be too expensive for the bench?

I hope you're right Bluey420!!!

He only has one year on his contract. He wont extend it and as such will probably leave on a freebee next year. Therefore if the offer is good we may have to let him go and cut our losses.

Let him go, but not Cresswell.

Still think we should keep Delaney. As well as centre half he can also cover left back. God forbid Tommy gets injured then we r really up the creek.

Its a good sign other clubs are interested in our players! It means they are doing well to attract the interest. Holiday time is over so expect transfer speculation to hit over drive as we approach the start of the season.

Delaney is a good player and a good pro. As said earlier, he provides great cover at CB and LB. Would be worth keeping.
