Bullard Still Very Much in First Team Plans
Bullard Still Very Much in First Team Plans
Thursday, 26th Jul 2012 06:00

Town boss Paul Jewell says midfielder Jimmy Bullard is still very much in his first team plans, despite the 33-year-old having been in the reserves side which beat Braintree 1-0 on Tuesday rather than the senior team which won 2-0 at Cambridge last night.

Jewell said: “I wanted to give most people 90 minutes and I thought that was the best way to do it. I wanted to have a look at a different system [at Cambridge].

“People can read too much into it. Jimmy played a full game last Thursday, half a game on the Tuesday and he’s a part of our squad like everybody.”

He could do with a good few performances at the beginning of the season.. His persona may be a front.. I think he may be low on confidence.

@Mr_Evans. Agreed. I think he can still pull another good season out of the bag. It's up to him, really. If the determination is there, he can be a key player again for us.

I'm not picking up £15k+ a week for acting like a child. In fact I have to pay about £30 to get in and act like a child.

Bullard excellent on loan, but a dreadful permanent signing to date.

Jimmy is a great player and had a terrible time off the pitch last season.

The club stood by him through it and helped him. Lets hope Jimmy is motivated (like Chops) to do his best for us this season.
A fully fit and confident Jimmy Bullard will one of the best players in this league.

I cant believe the grief he gets some times from fans. He had a poor season and was out of form/fitness but so was Chops and a few other players. Lets get behind him and be supportive.

SORRY to say but i agree with Souper Jim! Bullard needs to grow up and start to earn his wage. The most annoying thing is he still has the ability but hids behind the mask of a clown, sad but true!!

He owes us, not as much as he owes PJ & ME, but he owes us.

Let's hope he has the hunger and desire to repay, we all know he has the talant.

If thats a recent photo, I'm concerned about the start of a double chin!

cor some of you are boring arn't you!!

bullard is a legend. according to twitter he is always having banter with the players off the pitch and i think it is important to have those kind of characters behind the scenes.... oh and he is a quality player!

Funny how people have sympathy for Chopra's situation, but will give none to Bullard. The latter's problems may not be as clearly defined as compulsive gambling, but I'd say there seems to have been some mental issue last season - and probably before, given the trouble at Hull.

Presenting a cheeky chappie/clown persona to the world doesn't make one immune to the 'black dog' of depression and, indeed, can be little more than a mask. Getting blind drunk is also not really a symptom of "fun", more of wanting to hide from reality. A big wage won't do anything to protect you when your confidence is gone. Being put into a position where he's required to desperately defend - obviously not his forte - and thus fail won't have helped, either.

I was encouraged to see his enthusiasm at Donny last season and read reports that he's been doing well in the pre-season games. I'm more than happy to give him the chance to turn things around, as we're also doing with Chopra.

Could and should be a key player this season...would love to see him given a "free" role behind the striker(s).

I think Chopra wants to turn things round but still to see Bullard making the same sort of effort to do so, Hence the differing treatments from the club.

If Bullard stays fit and away from trouble, and he feels up to it, he can easily be a talisman for the upcoming season. But it's a very big if! He owes the fans, the staff and the club to perform this season.

The way I see it is this ... every employee needs to earn their agreed wage. It does not matter to anyone else how big or small that wage is,b ut if you promise to do a job for payment then YOU need to do the job. that is up to Jimmy - he is the one who has to ask honest questions about how well he does his job.

Employers, on the other hand, have to do their job too - looking out for the needs of their staff to help them achieve for their own needs and the needs of the employer.

Fans are part of the employer - are we doing all we can to help the employees (players, management, groundstaff, boardroom) to do their best and so see the best performance ?

Will Jimmy be our star man this year ? Two answers ...
