Jewell: No New Approach From Villa
Jewell: No New Approach From Villa

Town boss Paul Jewell says the Blues have heard nothing more from Aston Villa regarding left-back Aaron Cresswell. Villa’s chief executive Paul Faulkner contacted his Blues counterpart Simon Clegg regarding the 22-year-old's availability earlier in the week.

Jewell said: “The last time I spoke to you at Cambridge is the last news I’ve got to tell you. Nothing’s happened since then.

“We don’t encourage anything and until I’ve got something different to tell you, that’s the answer to that question.

“He spoke to Simon Clegg, as I told you on Wednesday, they made that enquiry and weren’t encouraged that Cressy was for sale.

“As I said to you the other night and as I said to Cressy, everyone has their price, but I don’t want this to become an issue because there’s no issue to be made. They made an enquiry, they haven’t followed it up as yet and if they do, I’ll let you know.”

Creswell needs another season with us as not yet good enough for the premiership. If you were at Brighton you would have seen why as Buckley skinned him far too easily. Granted he had little in front of him but he still got skinned.

Its one thing having money but its another thing spending it on the right players. Also if teams know we have money to spend they tend to increase the asking price.

very much agree with slowtractor. whilst no doubt he's a huge talent, he still struggles against direct fast wingers, such as buckley. fingers crossed that he stays with us and develops into a top class full back.

I rate Cressy highly but I would have taken the money personally but only if it was reinvested, i would rather us buy 3 or 4 decent players to improve our team than keep a left back.

Would have to disagree with you Edmunds5 although I can see your point. Imagine if this keeps happening. We get a good young player we cash in on him, then another, then another. We would end up changing the team again and again without achieving the level of consistency this club needs.

You have a fair argument BlueBailey24 but imagine if we got three or four decent players which assembled a squad that could challenge for promotion, we got promoted and had alot more money to spend that would show that the desicion would have been correct, we are in the Championship and we have to have a good balanced squad and we need players to improve the team in general not keep one player because he has potential to be worth more.
