Martin Again Missing for Southend Trip
Martin Again Missing for Southend Trip
Tuesday, 31st Jul 2012 13:01

Midfielder Lee Martin will again be missing when the Blues take on Southend in a pre-season friendly at Roots Hall this evening (KO 7.45pm). The 25-year-old has been suffering with a thigh problem throughout pre-season with his only involvement so far as a sub in the second half at Cambridge.

Better news is that striker Ronan Murray is back having been sidelined with a minor niggle, while prospective signing Cheick Kourouma is again involved with the squad.

Martin was the Town scorer in the friendly between the two sides last year which ended 1-1.

A Blues reserves side will be in action at AFC Sudbury on Wednesday evening (KO 7.45pm).

Squad: Ainsley, Bullard, Carson, Chambers, Chopra, Cresswell, Delaney, Drury, Edwards, Emmanuel-Thomas, Hyam, Kourouma, Lee-Barrett, Loach, Luongo, Murray, Scotland, Stevenson, Whight.

Look forward to Murray having a chance. Be interesting to see how he has developed after being out on loan.

Going to the game tonight. Looking forward to seeing how the new lads play. I might even post updates on here for my TWTD buddies, if I get internet connection in such a big stadium, that is ;-)

Would much appreciate any updates on the game tonight. One of my mates is a shrimpers fan so I don't want to hear him gloating tomorrow. COYB!

@Surco72

Thats a pretty good line up, with Martin and Smith to come back I think we have a pretty solid first team. Dont forget we also have Hewitt to come back.
TBH I think we just need to add a new striker or two and an extra def cover to have a very competitive and quality squad.

i too hope Murray can stake a claim for more first team action this season. He could be a 10-15 goal+ striker if given more regular game time.

Would like us to play our best team tonight, as we haven't really done that in pre season so far. Not expecting it whatsoever though.

That team in my opinion is,

4-2-3-1
Loach
Edwards Chambers Delaney Cresswell
Drury Luongo
JET Stevenson Carson
Chopra

Before the season starts we need to replace Carson with Murphy/Wickham, and possibly Delaney with a new centre half, but I don't think we're desperate in that area. I actually think Chambers and Del boy could form a good partnership.

Also Martin to come in for Stevo.

Don't think Bullard has the energy, pace or skill to run with the ball to play there sadly. We need Martin's direct running in there, Bullard won't do that.

The start of the new season is fast approaching , we really need a committed performance tonite, defence especially! no more soft goals please!

U dont need to run much about to play there garv, youre just like the second striker, receiving the ball and making things happen, better off there than as a holding midfielder.. He will also get to use his shootingskills more

If he goes to Bristol he would have failed miserably in Geography as its quicker and nearer to get to London from Derby

Hackneyblue I hope your gonna use sat-nav if your going to southend tonight ;-)

Sindre you really do need to run about in there. Your main job without the ball is to harry the opposition defence into making mistakes or giving the ball away. You need to be energetic and run the channels, get to the the byline and put crosses in, just because its not from the wing you still need to do this. You need direct running with the ball. You need at least a bit of pace as not to slow attacks down too much. Can you see Bullard doing these things?

Let Bullard do his thing in central midfield with a protector next to him offering security I say.
