Smith Enjoyed Brazil Experience Despite Defeat
Smith Enjoyed Brazil Experience Despite Defeat

Blues defender Tommy Smith says he enjoyed playing against Brazil despite a 3-0 defeat at St James’ Park which ensured his New Zealand side exited the Olympics having finished bottom of their group.

Goals from Danilo (23) Leandro Damiao (29) and Sandro (52) saw the South Americans, who ended the match with 10 men after Alex Sandro was red-carded, to victory.

Smith tweeted: “Apart from getting rainbowed by Leandro, I enjoyed the experience of playing against some of the world’s best young players!

“Proud of the lads, everyone gave all they had. An experience we will never, ever forget!”

Smith will now return to Town to join up with the squad ahead of Saturday’s friendly against West Ham.

Did no worse than Micah Richards or Tomkins did against the Brazilians. Well done Tommy!

The quicker he is paired up with Chalmers the better. Maybe Delaneys head is being turned by talk of a move elsewhere - a move that many would welcome!

Well done Tommy...great experience.

Now back to reality! Seriously, I really think that you will make a real difference this season.

I hope you are right TractorBeezer!

Tommy can rest assured that his absence has not jeopardised his first team place. If anything it has actually secured it.

Tommy done ok but not too sure where the opinion " when Tommy is back we will be alright" has come from. I think if we are relying on him our club is in trouble. I think he has done alright but was part of our defense that shed a bucket full every week last year so I am less optimistic than some on here. I hope I'm wrong as I'm as sick as everyone at our inability to keep clean sheets.

Rainbow kick ... FIFA 08 describes as "one of the most famous soccer moves".

I'm with Phil in seeing the need for a link to the wiki page for that one!

Wychyblue...Smith was a different player in the second half of last season and he showed the potential in that second half of the season that his early form suggested. And Remember it was a partnership with another left footed CB. He will be a good player and will form a good partnership with chambers. Really dont rate Delaney as anymore than a backup CB....

He will certainly come back match fit....COYB

Very disrespectful of Leandro...everyone knows it's only acceptable to rainbow an opponent when they're a Nazi :^D
