Smith: We Looked More Like a Premier League Side
Smith: We Looked More Like a Premier League Side
Saturday, 4th Aug 2012 22:56

Defender Tommy Smith felt it was the Blues who looked like the Premier League side during their 3-1 defeat of newly promoted West Ham. The 22-year-old was playing his first game since returning from Olympic duty with New Zealand.

Smith said: “It’s always nice to win games and play well, but it’s mainly about getting the fitness levels right in pre-season.

“I think first half especially we played some lovely football and at times it may have looked like we were the Premier League side to the fans.

“But it’s just great to be back in with the lads and getting to know the new boys in the squad too.

“I would have liked to have been around the squad throughout the whole pre-season, but playing for my country in the Olympics is something I’m very proud to have done.”

Striker Michael Chopra, who netted the first goal from the penalty spot, added on Twitter: “Another goal in the bag today. Played West Ham off the park today. [If] we keep playing like that we will go up, but it’s a long old season on [the] way.”

Between Lungo, Martin and JET they played some lovely football. Lungo especially looks a very tidy player indeed. Lets hope we play like that in league games instead of being gutless and hoofing it long, you did it today boys so you have confidence in your own ability.

Just seems that Luongo is pure quality and the best loanee for years. Awesome that a 19 year old can control the midfield. Also, he seems to lift the players around him.

It's nice to see all the masses of people pre-judging Loungo, before he even had time to put a blue shirt on have kept quiet. Also the point regarding him 'not being our player' to develop is small minded.
It's not like we have a whole squad of loanees, we have one, and being such quality think HE will actually help develop our players.

Luongo has been are best player in pre season by a mile. I hope we can keep him but I doubt it.

a lot of the difference yesterday , was the simple fact that we were playing another footballing side- they allowed us to play our game : That wont happen to often in the Championship , so we must get some players in with a bit of beef and brawn, because we may be technically gifted but I dont think we will fair so well against the physicality of the this league .

From yesterdays evidence it certainly looks like Luongo is a really decent signing for the season, looks like he always has time to pick a pass. Question, Luongo for season long loan or leadbitter permanent for 3 years? Know which I would choose.

Retroblue...way off, west ham used to be my second team on account of the lovely football they played, Sam Allardyce's teams have never been associated with good football, the rubbish served up by them yesterday was disjointed and messy with no creativity in midfield ...it was yuk and they made us look like barcelona as my west ham friends remarked...coyb
