Duo Could Win Caps Wednesday, 15th Aug 2012 12:39
Josh Carson and Damien Delaney could add to their full international caps this evening. Carson’s Northern Ireland face Finland in a friendly at Belfast’s Windsor Park (Sky Sports Three, 7.30pm).
Delaney and the Republic of Ireland are in action against Serbia in Belgrade, also in a friendly. The 31-year-old has not been named in Giovanni Trappatoni’s starting line-up, which does include former Town skipper Jon Walters and ex-Blues loanee Darren O’Dea, who recently joined Paul Mariner’s Toronto FC.
Midfielder Carson has previously won three senior caps, while centre-half Delaney has five.
Meanwhile, Blues striker Ronan Murray was an unused sub as the Republic of Ireland U21s lost 1-0 to Turkey in a European Championships qualifier in Sligo last night.

Great Murray was taken away from possible first team experience to be an unused sub? Thanks Ireland | | 2 |

Garv: personally I am hopeful that Carson will prove to be more than just a squad player in the coming season - certainly Martin is considerably more effective playing centrally behind a striker than he is wide, so (assuming we revert to the 4-2-3-1 that served us well towards the end of last season) that would open up a spot on the team sheet for Carson out wide. We shall see if that opportunity materialises, and if he can grasp it in the event it does. | | 0 |
