Davies Bid Was Accepted
Wednesday, 22nd Aug 2012 06:00

Town manager Paul Jewell has revealed that Derby accepted an offer from the Blues for Steve Davies before the striker agreed to join Bristol City on Monday. The Robins are believed to have paid the Rams £750,000 for the 24-year-old with Town likely to have matched that figure having spent months in negotiation with the Midlands club.

Jewell said: “It’s been an ongoing situation. I think the fee was agreed but Steven, for his own situation, he wanted to move quickly and he chose Bristol City. He’ll have his reasons for that and I wish him well.

“We were in the race for him, we would have liked him, we haven’t got him and that’s life. You miss out on some players, we move on to the next.

“He’s not the only player that we’re looking at, he’s not the only player in that position that we’ve been looking at or, indeed, have made offers for.”

The Town boss played down his interest in Rangers midfielder Maurice Edu, who is now a Stoke City target, and wouldn’t be drawn on other reported targets: “Without trying to put you off the scent, [with all] the speculation linking us with this player and that player, we could be here all day talking about it.

“We are in for players and I’ve said we need three players at least and we want to add them to the group. I’m not going to comment on speculation.”

However, asked whether he had any bids in at the present time, he responded: “Yes.”

Meanwhile, former Blues loanee Ricardo Fuller has joined Charlton having left Stoke at the end of last season. The 32-year-old was mentioned in connection with a return to Portman Road earlier in the summer.

It's all about the money money money...

Of personal reasons ;-)

Given Bristol City's recent penchant for buying strikers, lets hope he's happy warming the bench 'down South' instead of in Derbyshire

Very little has added up during this whole protracted saga. I suspect ,as always, that there was more going on behind the scenes than we will ever learn.
Still, if a player isn't keen to come why would we want him?
I loved beating Watford last night, specially after they nicked a win in the 93rd minute on Saturday. Too many disappointing visits to their funny old ground in the past...

Wonder how many bids are in, would be nice to have a tripe signing by Saturday a striker a left winger and a striker

I can dream

Team doing well but thin on the ground if we lose a few players

Transfer window closes in a few weeks so expect some deals to start going through.

Plus if we are playing well and winning games, it makes us more attractive to potential targets. COYB!

Got a feeling this will be a narrow escape, so far done very good shrewd business this summer. But get the feeling this will have been one blew up in our face, getting injured or just turning out to be Tamas Priskin in disguise lol
More disappointed that Baldock has gone without mention of us being involved.

We were playing well the last transfer window and still players would rather go elsewhere, good to see Ward doing such a good job at palace.

We seem to keep on missing out on targets, why would Mccoist say we have bid for Edu? He just doesnt want to come here and is waiting for another move. We have also been after Fuller for most of summer and he goes elsewhere. Bristol City have paid £1m for Baldock thats a steal in my book. Would of loved him here

I suspect that Bristol T*tty will be unloading Jon Stead now that they have signed 2 new strikers. So there's our new man.

I was listening to the Guardian footy podcast and they said that Barcelona use a 17 man first team squad because they trust their youth players if they need them. Maybe less is more

Maybe now clubs and player will realise we will not be held to ransom on fees and wages. This is great management and the right way to run the club if you don't want to end up like pompy or rangers

How about we make a reasonable offer for Ishmael Miller of Notts Forest? He's 25, 6ft 3in and is wanted by Middlesbrough and Blackpool, according to SkySports. Can't be that bad then?

Please please please make this the last EVER story about Steve Davies, he's gone so let's move on! Great win last night you can't beat a last minute winner!

Great start for the Blues but everyone knows we are abit thin on the ground. One or two injuries to key players and we would be struggling. How can other teams tie up deals so quickly??? Bristol City (Davies and Baldock), Charlton (Fuller) and Cardiff (Tommy Smith).
We need a big quality striker quickly - Wickham / Jay Bothroyd loan?????

Yeah, accepted 10 mins before he was due to sign for City!! We had all summer to get him in, but we tries to get him on the cheap and pushed it to far. NEXT.

Shame we took 4 bloody months to get an offer accepted though isnt it ffs!

I suspect our dilly dallying in getting players terms sorted is now well known amongst players, so little wonder Davies went elsewhere.

SORT IT OUT Clegg !

Heard the only reason he didn't sign for Helmond Sport was because they demanded that he fix the table that Chris Moyles' mate broke!

I do wonder how many “targets” we have missed by dithering and shilly-shallying about. People (Davies?) do get fed up and say “sod it” after a while.

Karlosfangdanlo - i was hoping we would move away from tripe signings. Too many of those in our recent past.
