Town, Charlton and Brighton Offered Ex-Birmingham Midfielder
Wednesday, 22nd Aug 2012 12:44

Town, Charlton and Brighton have been offered Senegalese international Guirane N'Daw by his club St Etienne, according to reports in France. N'Daw, 28, was on loan with Birmingham last season.

Having completed his spell at St Andrew’s, 6ft 3in tall N'Daw returned to France and Town’s 1981 UEFA Cup opponents but is said not to be in manager Christophe Galtier’s plans.

A representative of the club is reported to have travelled to England to speak with the Blues, the Addicks and Seagulls regarding N’Daw, who has been capped 44 times by his country, scoring four goals.

N’Daw is contracted to St Etienne until the end of this season and he could move either on loan or on a permanent basis.

The Rufisque-born midfielder or centre-half began his career with Sochaux , with whom he won the 2007 Coupe de France.

He moved on to Nantes in 2008 before joining St Etienne initially on loan in 2009, a deal which became permanent the following summer for €4 million.

He spent the second half of 2010/11 on loan at Real Zaragoza in Spain before joining Birmingham on for the first half of the following campaign, the deal eventually being extended until the end of the season.

While with Birmingham he was absent with Senegal at the African Nations Cup for a time and sidelined with a hamstring problem, but still managed 25 starts and four sub appearances without scoring.

A powerful central midfielder in the N’Daw mould is very much in Paul Jewell’s thoughts as he looks to add at least three players to his squad before the transfer window closes.

No thanks, awful footballer, just a big lump. Touch, technique and passing all poor.

Heard of him but know nothing about him. Does he usually play centre half? Could do with more height I guess. We don't normally pip too many others to signings mind you so if others in for him we may struggle.

Left mid, centre half and striker needed please PJ. Not too concerned yet, but that transfer deadline is a coming.

N'Daw, Hyam, Luongo and Drury would give us real diversity, quality and strength in depth in the engine room.

On a seperate note, keeping the transfer window open two weeks into the season is a joke. PJ has to wait for Premiership managers to sign the players they want before they will release anybody in their squad that we could feasibly sign permanently or even on loan. Good news is that Martin O'Neill is after yet another centre back (Dawson) to add to the 4 he already has, so maybe Bramble will become available. While Mark Hughes has about 7 or 8 strikers possibly making Bothroyd surplus to requirements.

Daniel9624 - you should be his agent with praise like that! Christ, we don't want him if that summation is accurate.

Never really seen him play but if he can improve the squad then go for it, think we need another striker and left winger more though.

Is he being looked at as a Centre Half or is Hyam not good enough?

You have to ask why he was not good enough to get a permanent deal with Birmingham or be in contention at St Etienne

Fitzy, saw him play a couple of times at birmingham and during the African Cup, honestly the guy is tragic. Think Papa Bouba Diop but without and skill. That said he can tackle but so can any CM worth his salt. Would be devastated to see him ever in the side ahead of Hyam. Wow sound like i really have a vendetta against him or soemthing, but he is just poo!

hes a winter months player ,ie when the pitches are bad and a team has to adapt. hes committed, diciplined and has a great work ethic. part of the jigsaw a team needs and we lack. jewel knows we need graft as well as craft, and as kean used to say, we are to nice, nice is no good at 50% of championship grounds in winter. poor pitches etc etc etc.

Doesn't get me of my seat this. I would see this more of a panic buy and I would like too see us genuinly interested in someone rather than be offered someone. Hyam is doing a great job in there but obviously needs more help and I guess Birmingham did reach the play offs last season though and he played a good 30 odd times so he must have been quite useful.

Seriously, how many players have we been linked with this summer? And how many have come off? Transfer rumour and speculation is usually good fun, but it's becoming tedious now. Wake me up when we have actually bought someone!

Love the picture of him in which he appears to have a) missed the ball completely and b) booted Nolan up into the air. An indication of his skill levels perhaps? Is he another Georges 'Dirty' Santos?

Must confess, I don't know anything about him, so don't know whether he'd do a good job or not. A bit of height in the team wouldn't go amiss though.

But there's something slightly amusing about the phrase 'Town have been offered this player', not 'Town have made an offer for this player'. Perhaps there are problems at St Etienne that I don't know about, but it almost sounds like they are saying "Charlton, Brighton, Ipswich... somebody, PLEASE take this bloke off us!"
