Peters Leaves Town
Thursday, 23rd Aug 2012 14:45

Canadian international Jaime Peters has left the club after his contract was terminated by mutual consent. TWTD revealed that the club were in talks with the 25-year-old’s representatives regarding ending his contract a fortnight ago.

Jewell said: “Jaime Peters has left, his contract has been terminated by mutual consent. We wish him well. It just hasn’t worked out for him while I’ve been here.

“We’ve got Carlos at right-back, Jack Ainsley and now Elliott Hewitt. In terms of wide players, we’ve got JET, Josh Carson and Lee Martin, and it was always going to be difficult for him to break in.

“He went to Bournemouth last year and had a month there. It’s not personal, it’s just every manager has a different opinion of different players.”

He knows some supporters will have been keen to see the versatile Ontario-born player stay at the club but the Blues boss says he didn’t fit into how he sees his team going forward: “I know he’s a bit of a fans’ favourite because when we brought him on at Leicester the fans were really pleased.

“But for whatever reason, he didn’t fit in to what we want to do. He’s a good lad, we’ve never had a second’s problem with him and I’m sure he’ll get a club. As I say, we wish him well.”

The player himself added: “I’d like to wish Ipswich Town all the best for the future.

“I have some good memories from my time at the club and always enjoyed a good relationship with the supporters, but it’s important at this stage of my career that I’m playing football, so it’s best if I move on.”

Peters, who was the club's longest-serving player, joined Town in 2005, having been on trial in 2004. He also spent time with Chelsea, Manchester United and Millwall before opting to join the Blues, a move which was delayed by red tape relating to his work permit.

Capped 26 times by his country, Peters made 71 starts and 43 sub appearances for the Blues, scoring four times. In addition to his time with the Cherries, he also had spells on loan at Yeovil and Gillingham while at Town.

In January, he was close to joining SPL side St Johnstone on loan but was prevented from doing so by the three club rule.

All the best Jaime. Shame he didn't get more of a look in under PJ, still a decent and versatile squad player I feel

Good luck Jaime. You should have been given more chances, but in professional football there are always someone the manager chooses to keep out. Last season there was alot of journeymen in front of you that cost the club big silly money while you should have been given the chance.

GL Jamie, good servant for the club, just never managed to step up to the next level required, after 7yrs can't expect much else, was always more of a reserve back-up player, under all of our managers.

Never knew what his best position was but it was definatley not right back. Elsewhere he always gave 100 % but made some howlers in defence.

Probably needs to drop a division or two to get himself establshed as a first team player. I wish him the best of luck whereever he ends up.

Always liked what I saw from him when he got the opportunity but all his past managers and Jewell must see something that doesn't warrant a run in the team

Good luck to the boy as always gave 100% and can draw confidence from recent young players leaving recently aka Trotter (who looks like he may have a premiership move) and Rhodes.
