Jewell: Squad All In It Together
Friday, 24th Aug 2012 06:00

Manager Paul Jewell says an incident after Tuesday’s game at Watford typified the unity within his squad at present.

Jewell says that two players had to remain behind after the 1-0 victory over the Hornets: “Both Chops and Cressy got picked out for drugs tests on Tuesday and they weren’t going to get on the bus until 11.20pm.

“I asked the lads if they wanted to go or if they wanted to wait and they all said they wanted to stay. I was gutted as I wanted to get off home! It showed that we’re all in it together and I was pleased.”

He was delighted with both the display and the win at Vicarage Road: “The performance was excellent really. It’s nice to get both [a performance and a result].

“We’d always take a result over a performance but if you can get both a result and a performance that’s obviously good.

“We played well, but that’s behind us now and we look forward to the next game and a very difficult obstacle in Blackpool.”

As for the much vaunted Watford hoodoo, Jewell says he didn’t remember it until he was reminded on the afternoon of the match: “To be honest, I never mentioned it.

"I didn’t realise until my wife texted me and said ‘I hope you break the bogey run against Watford’. I thought, ‘Thanks for reminding me!’

“I think the manner we played and the way we went about it meant it was a great night for us.

"It was a great night for the fantastic support we had there and it was about time we got a late goal because plenty of teams have done it to us since I’ve been here.

"We’re not getting excited or too carried away, but we go into games in a confident mood.”

A united squad always good for extra 12-15 points a season. Could be the difference between midtable & a promotion push.

Irishtim :- Agree. Don't think we've had a team working as a complete unit for a while, guess that's why its important to get the right players in, so no-one upsets the ' applecart '.

Love his sense of humour, " i was gutted i wanted to get off home".

This unity is so important, we won the FA cup and Uefa cup with small squads that had a tremendous unity about them.... COYB

I believe togetherness and excellent team spirit was a major factor in Blackpool's promotion and I hate to I say it, Norwich's, in recent years.

I have thought we have lacked that genuine togetherness for many seasons, but I do believe this has now changed. The small squad obviously helps, but there is more to it than that and I think we may be in for a better season than many of us dared to hope.

The ways Cressy and Chops are playing at the moment I'm not surprised they were picked out for the drugs tests. Like troopers they were, giving it their best. Can only be a good thing (Unless by a miracle they failed the test ofcourse). Sounds a good team spirit at the mo.
