Jewell: Town in Talks With Clubs
Monday, 27th Aug 2012 06:01

Boss Paul Jewell says the Blues are in talks with clubs about both loan and permanent signings as he looks to add to his squad before the transfer window closes on Friday.

While Reading striker Simon Church was again reported to be close to a loan move to Town over the weekend, Jewell wouldn’t be drawn on specific names: “We are in talks with clubs about players.

“I’m not going to comment on individual players, but we are in talks with clubs about bringing players in, both on loan and to buy.”

He said even before Saturday’s game he was aware of his squad’s shortcomings: “If we’d have won I would have said we need players.

“Our squad is threadbare. We’ve got Guirane N’Daw in, he’ll be a good asset for us in the middle of the park with a bit of strength and a bit of height.

“We need at least two other players to go into our squad, if not three. Saturday’s defeat, as painful as it is, doesn’t change my thoughts on what we need to improve the team.”

Jewell youve been saying the same thing all summer. In talks yes!!....fees agreed!!.... Players just do not want to play for you. The Davies guy from Derby was just waiting for another club to come in as he know ur useless!! There has been very little progress since u have been here. Hold your hands up, admit u should never of returned to management and get out of our club.

Players dont want to come here because they know how poor the fans are re above comments.

One defeat and the moaners are out. The moaners wanted young players in the side, they have had their wish. Live with it!!

I think some of you forget that PJ won't have chased down reporters to say the above, he will have been asked questions and Phil is reporting the answers. Doesn't matter what he says as some of you will have a pop at it no matter what. You believe because you follow this club you have more right to hurt from a defeat than those playing or managing. You don't, any more than a mate of a mates friend has more right to grieve of a death than the persons closest relative. We're all feeling it, its just some are more grown up about it on here than others. This is not just your club you know. Grow up.

I will believe it when I see it!!!
We have not progressed under jewell whatsoever. It was only the Barnsley game that saved him from the chop last season.
He has brought in countless players and with the exception of Cressy the cast majority have been useless.
Something is not right at ITFC.
We are a shadow of what we used to be, we are a million miles away from fantastic teams that joe royle and burley put together!! Even rookie magilton put together better teams!! Teams with passion and flair. The last two managers have been the worst two managers in the clubs history.
Say what you like about keane but he was a better manager than the current clown we have!
At least keane built a team that that was hard to beat and break down, if we would have turned all them draws into wins then keane would still be here!
Jewells teams that he has thrown together are useless!
When was the last time we ever thrashed anyone 6-0!
I await all the childish dislikes next to my post........
I couldn't care what you rose tinted glasses people think.
JEWELL OUT!!!!

Legend, you are entitled to your opinion, but to suggest that Keane was a better manager? DId you go to any of the games under him? The quality of the football was utterly appalling. At least Jewell has got us passing it, and is trying to build a young team.

As for us thrashing someone 6-0, that would be at Doncaster just after Jewell took over.

I would also say that Chopra, Loach, Luongo, Chambers and JET are not useless and we are yet to see Hewitt and N'Daw so I think that your comments about his performance in the transfer market are wrong.

Legend added 08:01 - Aug 27
Yes I went to the football under keane as I go to the football under Jewell.
So you think that jet and chopra are quality? All the baggage chops brought with him and playing jet in our team is like playing with ten men most of the time!!!
Chambers is new so we can't judge him and as for the young midfielder he is on loan so he is not OUR player is he!!!
N'Daw might be ok but we will see wont we.

IT is hard to believe that we have had all summer to get reinforcements in to the club,, and it is now down to the last 5 days to do something and get our act together ????
Other clubs seem to be taking our supposed targets WHY ????.
So come on Jewellio put your self about, or is it Marcus Evans holding you back ???

@floridaboy, how the hell is that moaning, i want Jewel to stay, continuity, young team etc, good signings so far, i'm simply expressing my opinion that i don't want anymore loans, where's the problem in that, get off ya high horse!!!!!! COYB.

Legend,

Chopra is clearly proven quality and will be a real force this year now his problems are sorted.

I know JET can be infuriating but he clearly has the talent; he is a young lad and it is a case of bringing it out of him.

I don't really care that Luongo isn't officially our player; he is wearing the blue shirt for all of this season so he is ours in my eyes. All Championship teams have one or two loan players in the side.

Same old crap! The result will be the same as always!! We are not an attractive club to players with our present managerial set up and it seems clear that Evans doesn't just trust PJ with his money now (just like with Magilton and Keano).

Personally, I don't expect to see any worthwhile additions before the window closes. I really think it is time for both Clegg and PJ to go and for Evans to pass over the running of our club to a real football person!

menacinho added 08:25 - Aug 27
Come on Mr Evans, back PJ in the transfer market. Saturday's result was horrible but I think it was just a freak. Even Holloway sees that. We restricted them to nine shots at home and they scored with six of them; most teams won't even convert one.

We had looked good in the first two games and just need some experience and strnght in depth.

With two or three good signings, I can see us being a force this year.

Its worrying how ill informed and quite frankly ridiculous some "fans" on here are . To say Keane was a better manager is just preposterous. To evaluate a current team on one defeat, is ludicrous, and to call for a managers head, just because you don't like him is just silly!
Whatever you say about Jewell, this summer he has done what the ans asked for, GK Check, CB Check, RB check, all permanent all young and hungry. Luke Hyam in the team, Check, only two loan signings, one of whom has been excellent thus far, and the other, i suspect will do well.
Finally Jewell says " we need more players", something which think most fans would agree with, yet still those "fans" complain, as i said ill-informed and silly

If we can't do permanent deals then loans are the only option open to PJ, but you have to ask yourselves why as a club we are inept at making permanent signings compared to other teams in this league, even unfashionable clubs like Crystal Palace and Bristol City are signing good players. We also got to look at our scouting system as well because there are some good players out there in the lower leagues but we just don't seem to be targeting them.

daniel9624 well said plus if we are not going to pay out any money then we miss out on PJ targets..

Jewell.........

Start by putting round pegs in round holes.....

Our right back isnt a right back!!
Our left side Centre back is a left back!!

Chopra cannot play up top on his own, he is only effectice facing the oppositions goal, which means he needs a player to feed off.
One up front means you need a player who is good with his back to goal. The last player to do this effectively for us was Alan Lee. You need some to play the ball to whos going to hold up and take the pressure off.
Its not rocket science.

Youve had 18 months in charge.....
You team now...
Still complaining we are short on numbers??????
Still complaining we arent a big side?????
Still loaning/panicing (again this week)

God help us!!

Kevlowestoft:"Our left side centre back is a left back"
Tommy Smith a left back - you are joking of course. He may not be the finished article but he is definitely a centre back (New Zealand?) and Carlos Edwards played righr back for Trinidad!

One idiot on here thought Thomas is a good player I wonder if he has actually seen him or has he left his guide dog at home IF he had seen him this season as I have seen all the games so far he is the worst player ever to wear the ITFC shirt

'if we would have turned all them draws into wins then keane would still be here!'

Trouble is, we didn't did we? So that's a completely pointless statement.

Keane was utterly disastrous for us. Jewell has not been great, but I know we're ten times better off with him in charge.

I think Legend's post is one of the more funny ones we've had in a while. Bravo.

bluey123 added 10:41 - Aug 27
Garv how can you make a statement like that 10 times better you clearly dont watch the team otherwise you would not make statements like that.
I certainly was not a fan of Keane but to say this idiot is better is silly .
I would like someone to tell me what Jewell has brought to the club and not go back to other managers.
Jewell has not brought wisely not signed decent loan players the players make the same mistakes as 18 months ago.

we still need a left sided centre half smith not good enough , this is why creswel is now looking average. Also a rb edwards can not defend at all . You build from the back and we havent done this for over ten years now. last player a target man.

So 3 players needed none will arrive another season of dross .
