Murphy Loan Deal Could Be Done By Wednesday
Tuesday, 28th Aug 2012 10:56

TWTD understands that Daryl Murphy’s season-long loan move to the Blues from Celtic could be completed as soon as tomorrow. Talks regarding the 29-year-old’s return to Portman Road have been ongoing for the last couple of days with the Irish international back from his hamstring injury sooner than had been expected.

Murphy was back in training with the SPL champions yesterday having suffered the injury only a fortnight ago.

Discussions regarding his loan to the Blues — his third temporary move to the club in addition to a number of spells on trial while with hometown club Waterford United — will continue today, but with all parties keen for the deal to go through, the situation could be resolved by Wednesday.

Capped nine times by Ireland without scoring, Murphy made 32 starts and two sub appearances for Town last season, almost all at left midfield, netting four goals.

At the end of the campaign Paul Jewell said he was keen to sign the former Sunderland man on a permanent basis but wasn’t confident a deal could be done.

Speaking in July, he said: “I’ve spoken with Daryl’s agent a few times and if they want a fee, with his wages, we just can’t afford it. It’s no secret that Daryl’s on a good contract at Celtic.

“I thought he did well for us at the back end of the season. We would be interested in Daryl if the deal was right, but I get the feeling that it’s going to be an expensive deal for us to do.”

Think you missed a space between Murphy and Deal

understandable signing but I'm hoping for a much overdue exciting permanent signing by Friday. When was the last time this club had a player come in worth getting excited about?

OK, why is this a loan and not a permanent signing? Celtic are not going to get a fee for him now, so don't see a loan being of any advantage to them.

We know all about him, so would surely prefer he signs up full time

Does Murphy himself not want to commit beyond a year?
Or have we managed to get Celtic to agree to pay some of his wage?

i hope that this is not the long anticipated striker that we badly need. Murphy is o.k. as a bit player but he is certainly NOT a prolific goalscorer!

Celtic probably paying some of his wages and as regards to Murphy coming HOME 'better the devil you know.....'

Meaning he'll be with us on Saturday morning, too late to play against Huddersfield.

Happy about this. He knows and likes the club, knows most the players, adds depth to the squad and an ariel threat, can play two positions, can cross the ball well, gets assists and scores important goals.

Murphy is very useful in the 4-2-3-1 formation as he'll perform consistently out on the left, and if we need more firepower he can join Chopra upfront in 4-4-2 later in the game. Means we don't have to make changes.

Bizarre how a loan player ranks as one of our longest-serving players!

Suppose he's ok to have as a squad player, think he's only signed him for his height though.

Spot on Casanovacrow and Church won't get me excited either (regardless of loan or permanent).

this looks like PJ panicking again . Murphy was not our first choice , but the thinking seems to be , we can't get anyone else in so lets give him another season - he is not the answer to our goalscoring up front .

Funny that no other clubs seem interested in signing him .

We don't want loans like this which don't solve our problems , we want more than someone to make up the numbers

Great news. Murph's physical presence has been missed so far this season. Hopefully this is just one of two bits of business with The Buoys, with a much needed CB also joining the fold!!!

the good thing about him on loan is when we go up this year he isn't contracted to us so we can sign the messies and van pansies of the world...

Good news. He id an excellent job for us last season and can do the same this. JimmyJazz, it may be that we won't pay all of his salary, so he remains a Celtic player with them paying part of his salary and us the rest. And he may be holding out for a deal with a club who will pay him what he is currently earning - which we obviously won't.

Hadleighboyblue - he was one of out first choices as Jewell said back in May he'd love to have him here this season, but Celtic wanting a fee made it too expensive.

So quit your moaning and welcome a good player who at the moment is a much better option on the left than Carson

celtic want a fee for him that town cant stretch too, by them loaning him out means if needed they can recall him.
carson may end up being a great player but he is not yet, murp is better at the moment and has more height.

A useful addition BUT he's not PJ's first choise. If Daryl plays in central role then i'm pleased as he can hold up against big defenders and will possess ariel threat (very lacking at present).
I'd didnt like him on left wing especially as keepers were punting balls at him and it became too predictable!! But then again i don't understand why when our keepers take goal kicks, all our players mass on one side of the pitch. Why don't our fullbacks hold back and collect ball or break off away from everyone else. At least we'd keep position a bit longer!!

He's a good player, and I'd like him here permanently... but how many times is he going to come her on loan ffs?

A good signing if it happens, has always put in a shift for us and the majority of his good work goes un noticed, can't understand some of the criticism on here. Was a very important player for us last year and is committed to the club, I think if you were to ask the players and staff at PR weather they would like him back and they would be delighted with it, which shows just how much some on here know about the game. Get it done!

There are so many out of contract players, I'm sure we could do some deals ASAP. Micheal Owen is still a free agent? He could be our Kevin Phillips?

Murphy is okay - available and wants to come. He can't and won't be any worse than Carson or JET...
