Stevenson Set for Return to Scotland
Wednesday, 29th Aug 2012 14:28

Blues midfielder Ryan Stevenson is closing in on a move back to the SPL with Motherwell. We understand that the ex-Ayr United and St Johnstone man is currently in talks with the Fir Park club regarding a permanent deal.

The 28-year-old joined Town from Hearts for £50,000 in January but is yet to establish himself in the Blues first team.

Stevenson has made three starts and 10 substitute appearances for Town, scoring his only goal in the 3-2 win at Doncaster on the final day of last season. The Scot is contracted to the Blues until the end of the season.

The one-time Scotland call-up is understood to want to move on in order to play regular football.

Posh pair George Boyd and Paul Taylor are understood to currently be at Portman Road for talks regarding their £2 million switch to the Blues.

well that was a waste of a signing then

Jewell changes his mind more often than he changes his socks (or home kits for that matter...)

Fair enough. He hasn't done enough to get into the first team so time to cut our losses and make way for new signings.

I don't think he was good enough and certainly well down the pecking order. So let him go and bring others in.

Nothing ventured nothing gained. It's the real world where not everything is always perfect and every signing works. Hope your return works out for you Ryan.

Perhaps he just hasn't settled down here, we let Neil Alexander go under similar circumstances, if that's the case it's right and proper to let him go, £50,000 isn't exactly a huge loss even if a fee isn't involved here. Good luck to him if this happens.

he lasted longer than most of Paul's signings. Great goal by him against Doncaster, seemed competant, just don't think he fits in this 4231 monstrosity

At £50,000 it was probably worth the gamble. Probably low wages too (don't forget that he was on no wages at all before he joined us). But I agree with others that he is unlikely to make the grade so best that he moves on.

He looked poor last night - but then so did most of the others

Robs the team of even more depth if true. We must be very confident that Murphy and Boyd are done deals, or we'll be paper thin.

If Boyd and Taylor come in, let Stevo go. But if not, I would say letting someone who is regularly making our bench go wouldn't be very smart.

Good luck to him if he does go, always liked his commitment and aggressive style of play, always put himself about.

Didn't have long but probably not good enough really, seems to have a good attitude and work hard but the same can be said about a few players, e.g. Peters, we need more than just a good work rate. Also just shows further how poor Scottish football is as he was a good player and scored goals for Hearts. Now get Boyd and Taylor in please!

He always showed fight which the club needed, he only cost £50k and could probs make a profit on him. We should only let him go if it helps us bring in Boyd and Taylor. Will always remember his fantastic strike at Doncaster.

All the best Ryan and please sign Taylor and Boyd ASAP!

The shortest tenure since Clive Allen at Arsenal ... or Bobby Bell at Blackburn!

Best of luck Ryan. Cracking goal against Donny. Just not for ITFC. Hope you do well in the future.

Should never have bought him. Hope we get our money back!
The standard in the Championship is higher than the SPL!

Worth a punt at 50k. Didn't work out. No hard feelings. Good luck.

No problem here, but we do need a squad of 25 at least don't we. Whats the lowest number of players a club is allowed?

Not surprised at all by this. To be honest I think that he was only going to be a bench warmer at most. He has recently became a Father & I wouldn't be surprised if his other half is homesick. Hopefully Boyd & Murphy will be coming in so plenty of cover in midfield. Good luck to Ryan if he moves back to North of the border.

There is no minimum squad size - only a maximum (25) and then that only applies in the PL and to players over 21.

Shame about this, when he is warming up at half time with the other subs, his passing accuracy is incredible over long distances. However, didn't do enough in the games unfortunately, maybe not given a fair crack of the whip though? Not sure

I remember he joined as his wife just had a baby! He was good when he played but obviously he wants to be closer to his family so thats good for him and can't blame him!
