Town Set to Receive Rhodes Windfall
Wednesday, 29th Aug 2012 22:28

Town look set to receive a windfall with Blackburn reported to have agreed a fee with Huddersfield for ex-Blues striker Jordan Rhodes. The 22-year-old, controversially sold to the Terriers by Roy Keane in the summer of 2009, is set to move for an initial £4.5 million fee which could rise as high as £8 million after milestone clauses are triggered.

The Blues are understood to have received a fee from Huddersfield which ultimately rose to a figure believed to be £850,000 after all the milestone clauses in that deal were met and are due a sell-on percentage understood to be 10% of the Terriers’ profit.

Scotland international Rhodes, who is reported to have already agreed a four-year contract with the Ewood Park club, is set to undergo a medical on Thursday and is expected to be a Blackburn player before the Terriers visit Portman Road on Saturday.

That will mean he misses out on the chance to face his old club and in particular a tussle with his close friend and fellow Town academy alumnus Tommy Smith.

Rhodes followed his father Andy to Portman Road after he was appointed Town's goalkeeper coach in the 2004/05 season, former club Barnsley receiving £5,000 compensation for the 15-year-old striker.

The ex-Kesgrave High School pupil was a regular scorer at all levels for the Blues academy and the reserves as well as for loan clubs but made only 10 senior sub appearances and netted just one goal - above against Cardiff - before being sold to Huddersfield when he was keen to remain at Portman Road and progress his career with Town.

Fantastic Halves the amount we are paying for the duo.

I hope he does well for them. Interesting how much Blackburn have to spend on just one player - when we can only afford a fraction on two. Shows what sort of competition we have, and how hard we are going to find it to get out of this league.

I'll be 1st to say it, Keane should never have sold him.
Good luck to him ...apart from when he plays us ;-)

I always said it will be interesting to see how he does in the Championship for a club other than Huddersfield. He was the main scorer in an attacking team at Huddersfield. How will he get on in a different set up? That might show us a little more clearly on how much we missed out (or didn't) by selling when we did. The fact he seems to have shown he can do it at international level suggests it will show that it was a very poor decision to sell.

Luckily we wont see him at PR this season.
Heard we were still keen on Wilson. Anything in this??

Such a shame we sold him, but hey life moves on, Nthsuffolkblue makes a good point, it will be interesting to see how he gets on at a "bigger" club.

Seems to come across as down to earth lad, his goal ratio for both Scotland u21s and Huddersfield last season was exceptional. We shouldn't have let him go but thats hindsight I suppose, wish him all the best at Blackburn.

This guy is a class act. He was when he played for us and still is now. I was always impressed with him and was absolutely stunned when Keane sold him. I seem to remember that it was the same day that Sir Bobby Robson died (or thereabouts) and for me it felt symbolic of how much this fine club had lost its bearings.

Anyone who wonders how he will get on at a 'bigger club' needs their head examined. I'm just glad he didn't sign for Nodge and that he won't bury a stake in my heart by scoring at PR on Sat. Plus, he only has pne other possible game against us this season.

Still angers me how Keane let him go when he signed the likes of Priskin for stupid money but time to move on and i wish Jordan a brilliant career like many of those before him who have worn the blue shirt.
A 10% sell on clause doesn't sound like great business to me but i guess its welcome in this time of austerity.
Oh Clegg so much to answer for?

This seems like great news, we get another few more quid, 450k that we won't be spending on anyone a tenth as good as him!

Rhodes has had one good season, I was and still am pretty pee'd off we sold him and Wickham as they were our future. There is nothing yet to suggest he'll do so well in the Championship. Seems wages are the sticking point at the club, but nice to get the extra money!

£8m for Rhodes is a bargin - glad we got rid of Wickham as he was certainly not worth the money we got.

Who cares? What's the bloody point, it wont be spent on team strengthening, even if we make an offer with it the players wont come.

Loans and more loans I feel.

Sort it out Evans.

People talking of ' hindsight '. It would appear that the only person who didn'y have it, was the guy that sold him ! Contender for the ' Top-Hat ' of the decade award, and well deserved !
