Cressy May Have Been Affected By Speculation
Thursday, 30th Aug 2012 06:00

Town boss Paul Jewell believes left-back Aaron Cresswell may have been affected by the speculation that Aston Villa could make a move for him during this transfer window. The Premier League side, who yesterday completed the signing of Middlesbrough left-back Joe Bennett, made an enquiry regarding the 22-year-old former Tranmere man at the end of July.

Cresswell was at fault for Carlisle’s winning goal and was generally under par at Brunton Park on Tuesday and the Blues manager says the conjecture surrounding his future may have been affecting him: “There’s been no more on that.

“I’m not saying that’s on his mind because he’s a smashing lad and he’s a good player, but I think the speculation might have affected him a little bit, and it’s no more than speculation.

"We haven’t had an offer, we haven’t turned down any offer, so that’s all I have to tell you.”

Villa would appear unlikely to renew their interest in Cresswell having signed England U21 international Bennett from Middlesbrough for a fee reported to be £2.75 million.

Good. Maybe now he will revert back to the player we had, the one who thoroughly deserved fan's player of the year.

But it has to be said that cressy didn't have a brilliant first season, he had a good one, made to look better by town and town's other players being distinctly average.

Desperately need another left back as Cresswell has the spot to himself and is not as good as many on here keep banging on about.

With no competition he can be a awful has he has started this season and still keep his place.

I think cressy would be quite handy on the left wing in a 442. whippin in those crosses an that.

Rubbish excuse, speculation does NOT cause you to kick a ball into your own net! I like cresswell and one day think he will be a great player

I agree Lukey. Both Edwards and Cresswell are competent in wide midfield areas. Full stop. WE NEED DEFENDERS GRRRRRR.

No excuse if you play garbage on saturday then Cressy! I agree with lukey too, his ability to cross the ball so well is wasted at left back. Best example of that is Gareth Bale.

Chambers and Smith are the problem

or maybe he's effected by a system that isnt the diamond especially with no murph in front. I'm not saying we should go back to that but its no shock that his best form was in a diamond, gave him freedom to get forward, it was expected of him. Now he doesnt get forward as much as there are less players to cover for him. Credit where its due Murph on occasion put in a good shift defensively in front of him at times last season and the opposing team ended up having to play a defensive FB so Cressy was rarely doubled up on unlike this season

Aaron Cresswell is like the rest of the team a third rate player!out of the 9 goals scored against us he was at fault with at least two, drop him and teach him his job is to defend

i seem to be one of a few that think (if the speculation was true) that we should have snapped villas hand off for 3.5m. tidy profit, money back in the system, and he is not the heart of the team. the lad is alright but shined moving forward. if we do finally sign a decent left sided midfeilder cresswell would almost become redudant and his defensive immaturaty would be exposed. but bringing players in seems to be the problem!
lets sign some heroes before tomorrow! COYB
