Former Blue Richard Wright is close to joining Premier League champions Manchester City on a one-year deal as their third-choice keeper. The 34-year-old is understood to be undergoing a medical at Eastlands.

Wright, who was released by the Blues at the end of last season, left Preston just days after joining the League One side earlier in the summer having been unable to settle in the North-West.

positivity added 14:26 - Aug 30 makes little sense, the only thing i can think is... as their 3rd choice keeper he won't have to live up there, just has to keep himself fit, then if one of the top 2 goes down, they're covered, gets round the transfer window for relatively low cost, wouldn't be surprised to see him being loaned out to a club down this way very soon
