Delaney in Exit Talks
Thursday, 30th Aug 2012 14:23

TWTD understands that Damien Delaney’s Blues career is set to come to an end before the transfer window closes on Friday evening with the central defender and the club in talks regarding the settlement of his contract.

The 31-year-old has another year left on his contract but would almost certainly be on the periphery at Town if he remained at Portman Road during the season ahead.

Instead, Delaney, signed by Roy Keane from QPR for an initial £750,000 in the summer of 2009, is keen to move on to play regular football elsewhere. Settling his contract before Friday’s deadline would allow him to move as a free agent once the window closes if he doesn't find a new side before then.

The former Cork City, Leicester and Hull man was linked with Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest earlier in the summer.

Delaney’s probable exit means that Paul Jewell is likely to be on the look-out for two centre-halves either before the closure of the window on Thursday or on an emergency loan once Football League clubs are allowed to bring players in on that basis in a week’s time.

Rangers defender Kirk Broadfoot was reported to be in talks with the Blues earlier today.

best have a couple of CBs lined up with the savings or we are deep in stool if we get an injury back there lol

Although I don't rate him, we have no back up for center half. See out your contract.

Jewell has more confidence than I if he thinks Clegg can persuade TWO CB's to join before Friday evening

I know a lot of people aren't great fans of Delaney, but how many defenders do we have now? I'm concerned....very concerned.

PJ must have a CB he's about to announce otherwise why would he leave us with just two CB's. I sincerely hope he's not looking to obtain another loanee, you can't build a team like that.

Do we ever sell players anymore? Or just settle/terminate their contracts, allowing them to leave without recieving any money?

Crazy, crazy, crazy. We need 4 CBs, now we have 2. And on recent history, how can PJ be confident of landing 1 player, let alone. Unless they're loans of course.

Thread bare squad ad it is. I said tis in earlier post that he is on his way to palace, as paddy mc carthy out for 6 wks. Never his biggest fan but can cover left back also. Imo we need to sign players before we leave some go. Why is it we cant seem to get even a small fee for our departees? Phil any update on kourouma or is it a dead deal??

daft move, delaney can do a job at the this level as backup, how much will we save by paying him off?

I've been saying for weeks that Upson would sign on a season long loan. Surplus to requirements at Stoke and if you will recall PJ said he had lined someone to sign on loan only to have it stopped because of illness to a CH at the loan club.... at that point Huth was supposed to have meningitis.

RAH4 I am available although I may only last the first 20 minutes which will be a sight longer than some of the Pro's this year. What will my signing on fee be?

Risky. Don't think Del Boy is that bad anyway.

PJ must be fairly confident of getting in at least one defender then?

Let him leave. Did his best for us although not a great player will surely get couple of make do defenders as cover. This really does scream of austerity measures, we hold conservative colours but dont need to follow their lead. I have faith in landing a few names by 11pm friday. How are butcher n mills these days? Clegg please prove us doubters wrong n get it done.

What the fu*k is going on a PR! could be a rough ride in the next month or two! Unless Paul Jewell suddenly turns into Paul Daniels overnight and performs some magic!

I am sure there will be a centre back in the building by business close tomorrow albeit a loan signing. Delaney sadly has gone downhill and we never saw enough of his collossal performances like against Arsenal. His distribution is awful and for such a big man loses too many high balls due to timing. A sensible move in my opinion now for the replacement.

At this rate we'll have less players at the club than Portsmouth

I agree Irishtim, how come we don't seem to let players go on a free or for a small fee
we pay them off then they sign for another club
or
Can N'daw play at c/half?
next few days are going to be crazy
