Town Linked With New St Ledger Move
Thursday, 30th Aug 2012 15:21

Town are reported to have renewed their interest in Leicester City central defender Sean St Ledger.

The Blues were close to landing the Republic of Ireland international in January before the Foxes pulled the plug on the switch.

Now, Town boss Paul Jewell is said to be ready to make a new move for the former Peterborough and Preston man.

St Ledger, who is 5ft 11in tall, was transfer-listed by Leicester following a row with manager Nigel Pearson after he was omitted from their side taking on the Blues on Boxing Day, but subsequently regained a place in their side.

However, his only appearance so far this season came in the 4-2 Capital One Cup defeat to Burton Albion on Tuesday.

The Birmingham-born defender signed a three-year deal at Leicester last summer after making a £1.2 million move from Preston, having started his career with Peterborough and having had a loan spell at Middlesbrough during his five years at Deepdale.

St Ledger has been capped 30 times by Ireland, scoring three goals, and was a regular in their side at Euro 2012.

Meanwhile, Jordan Rhodes has completed his switch from Huddersfield to Blackburn.

Too small! Why come out and say we lack height within the team ("Barcelona have a small team, but we are no Barcelona"), then target the smallest CB in the championship?!

Great defender, not sure if we want to get any shorter at the back in this division though.
Probably be worried about Paul getting the sack again so wont sign

Not the commanding powerhouse centre back we need but it will be a defender in the building and his passing will be better than Delaney. Could be something in the Upson speculation on loan as he comes from the area and PJ is great mates with Pulis. Mmmm St. Ledger, Upson, Chambers and Smith sounds good for competition.

Would be a great signing, but if we can't afford Boyd/Taylor wages how can we afford St Ledger? I'm confused

Would be great but I swear he's on a good 15-20 grand a week, and if we couldn't get Taylor and Boyd in who are on less than him then surely it would be difficult to get St Ledger in.

Like his name, he is more suited to a horse race rather than Portman Road.
