Murphy at Portman Road
Thursday, 30th Aug 2012 16:25

TWTD understands that Daryl Murphy is now at Portman Road as the Blues get closer to completing his season-long loan move from Celtic. The 29-year-old looks certain to be a Town player in time to line-up against Huddersfield at Portman Road on Saturday.

Murphy, who was an unused sub for the Bhoys in their Champions League victory over Helsingborgs IF last night but only as the SPL club were short on cover due to injuries, flew south this morning with the details of the deal likely to be resolved either this evening or tomorrow.

The Irish international’s Celtic contract is up at the end of the season and the clubs have been negotiating the proportion of his wages that Town will pay during the year ahead.

Murphy has always been keen on a return to Suffolk with his family having settled in the area during his two previous spells.

At the end of last season, Town boss Paul Jewell said he wanted Murphy back at Portman Road for 2012/13 but felt that a permanent deal would be beyond the club’s means with the midfielder or striker on a big money at Parkhead.

Meanwhile, efforts are still ongoing to resolve the red tape issues which have prevented French midfielder Cheick Kourouma from signing his contract with the Blues.

The club need assurances from all the sides the 20-year-old has played for since he was 12 that they will waive development compensation which is technically due to them under FIFA rules.

Its an extra hand on deck and add a bit of height, but completely un-inspiring. Am sat here in the office remembering the good old days, when we had players and heroes who we could relate to and who loved the shirt as much as us..... that seems a long time ago.

He has played 51 games and scored 10 Goals which considering he was playing on the wings last time is not a bad return in his first spell he played 18 and scored 6. I know its a shame that he has been back and forth but I think he is a great player at this level and always gives his all for the club.

I still think its going to be a good year for us this year(ok people probably getting tyred of me saying that now(ok I shall get my coat)) I honestly still believe we will lose in the Play off semis...

Murphy played extremely well for us last season on the wing, got some good crosses in, wins a lot in the air, scored a couple and has a bit of pace about him, happy to see him back.

Why always negativity? He has a burst of pace, strength and a good head, let alone a good finish on him, just what we need atm

Rip Ipswich town this is the day the club dies. We can not run a team just on loan players time to get the banners out and get clegg and Evans out of this club. Can't blame jewell he gives targets and clegg and Evans balls it up

I for one will be glad to see Murph back at PR especially if it means Jet drops out of the starting 11, how has Jet has managed to keep in the team .Murph does a lot of good un -moticed work for the team and will be a welcome addition as HE WANTS TO PLAY FOR US unlike some others who have been linked.

Fair signing. Looked good everytime I've seen him play, a bit of flair, and a decent strike in him!

Thank heavens Celtic didnt have to bring him on against Helsingborgs as he would have been cup tied for our European campaign.

The Kourouma situation is a disgrace. Why do players have agents if not to sort this kind of nonsense out? Any responsible agent would have been keeping paperwork after every move this lad has made and presenting him with that paperwork in place to any potential employer.

Poor player, he will fit right in.

Normally you'd say , "oh great that's Chops : Murphy as our strikers".
But Jewell rarely plays a 4-4-2 formation does he!
