Stevenson's Motherwell Move Breaks Down With Former Club Hearts Interested
Thursday, 30th Aug 2012 23:59

Exiting Blues midfielder Ryan Stevenson is set for a deadline day return to Scotland but not to Motherwell, the club with whom he held talks earlier in the week. Stevenson's former side Hearts are interested in re-signing the 28-year-old and have offered a better deal than their SPL compatriots.

Jambos boss John McGlynn confirmed that his club is looking to seal a deal: "There is an interest so we're hopeful we can do something with Ryan."

A return to Tynecastle would be a surprise with Stevenson having been on strike during the latter stages of his previous spell after the club failed to pay his wages.

Speaking after Motherwell's 1-0 (3-0 on aggregate) Europa Cup defeat to Levante in Spain, their manager Stuart McCall said he didn't think he would be adding Stevenson to his squad: "I've not got any positive vibes at all today. I've been concentrating on the game but I genuinely doubt it."

The Blues have agreed to end Stevenson's contract by mutual consent in order to make it easier for him to return home to Scotland with his wife understood not to have settled in Suffolk after the one-time Ayr and St Johnstone man's £50,000 move from Hearts in January.

When we signed him a Jambo friend of mine told me that his wife will decide if he is a success or not. Appears they were right. They said today that he might be returning to Hearts.

Another waste of money.

Cancelling contracts is becoming an expensive habit for ITFC

Pretty sure his wife gets mentioned in every story I've read on here about Stevenson!

Hope it goes well for the fella though, seems like a good player and bloke, and sorry to see him go.

Good luck to Stevenson, sorry it did not work out!!!
Marcus Evans must have spent a small fortune on the mutual consent contracts this year, no wonder he has been very careful this summer with his expenditure, anyway we will all see how today pans out hey ??????

He'll have a "warm" welcome from Hearts fans. This was their reaction to the news that he may be going to Motherwell.

By mutual consent surely means that it cost us nothing. I.e. we don't hold him back by wanting a fee and he doesn't hold us to the terms of his contract, after all it is him that requested the move, not us trying to get rid.

Eddie Grundy... that's brilliant. Fans that are even more fickle than Town's. The thread starts off thinking he is signing for Motherwell and calls for him to be hung, drawn and quartered. Then they find out he is going back to them and all of a sudden he is a good signing, just what the club needs!
