Boyd at Posh But Talks Continue
Friday, 31st Aug 2012 10:56

Blues target George Boyd is training at Peterborough this morning and contrary to earlier reports is not back at Town, but talks are understood to have resumed with his agent.

As we reported yesterday, Boyd is keen on joining his former Posh team-mate Paul Taylor at Portman Road but with wages the issue preventing the move from going through.

Blues boss Paul Jewell is set to hold a press conference this lunchtime where we should learn more regarding the progress of the deal.

No surprise about this. I would not be surprised if he signed or if he stayed. I think it will be a close call.

Phil - Do you know that if the Boyd talks are back on does this mean we will end up paying more than the joint bid as they were done seperately?

Still wouldn't pay over the top for him, despite his obvious talent. But yes, I would like to see him here.

Fee would be the same, only personal terms that is an issue.

If the fee is the same and he doesn't want ridiculous wages this can only be a positive signing!

Great footballing brain something have not seen at town for many years. Would like him just a gamble on wages, pays off then we will be fighting up the top. If he gets crocked or doesnt perform then can see big troubles ahead. So go get him n fill the ground when we are back at the sharp end. Another cb plus all round defensive cover player n sorted

New ITFC tactic.

10 midfileders along the halfwayline holding hands blocking the opposition.

Defence not needed

Not a fan of Boyd Posh fans at work are not bothered if he goes but are hacked off that we have signed Taylor they say he could be special (work in Peterborough)

Not sure why we need Boyd now we have Murphy and like wise why do we need Taylor if Murphy is the tall striker that Jewell wanted.

If Taylor is to play up front with Chopra then Martin would go to the left so no need for Boyd or Murphy

any chance of getting Lee martin's contract sorted too, not heard anything regarding this matter maybe that's why we are in for boyd??

We would be way too top heavy if we get GB so someone else is on the way out surely?

time being wasted on an okay midfielder when we could be signing defenders like St Ledger

If we get him along with Murphy and Taylor we would then have great & potentially exciting options in the attacking third of the pitch, however more importantly we have 1 option at centre back - Chambers and Smith - we need more cover there!!!!

Although deadline day is exciting, I cant help but think that you are always going to settle for second best or tenth best in Towns case. The movement of players on loan is understandable however, To spend big bucks on players to hurridly attempt to improve your squad is very nieve and short sighted. You have all Summer to talk to clubs, players etc and create a wish list and ok these deals often break down but you would only target players that would match your valuation. Same goes for allowing players like DD to leave without a replacement lined up is a joke. If we fail to stengthen our defence today after already weakening it this week is crazy. If we land St Ledger ( a long term target) on a full contract that would be great. Anyone else would be a " make do" and not exactly a planned calculated approach for future team building. IMO.

How much is he then? Originally I thought £1.75M was for the two (which seemed a lot of money to me!) but now it seems to read that we have paid that just for Taylor.

PJ Just confirmed at the press conference that Boyd would not be happening this time around.

churchmansboy added 12:57 - Aug 31
There must be an announcement re' a CB in the offing ASAP. Surely we would not have cancelled DD's contract if PJ is not confident of landing at least 1, if not 2???
Will be interesting to what we replace DD with. Our recent record ins signing CB's in p**s poor to say the least. Will likely end up replacing like for like!

From the press conference PJ basically said No more permanent signings are expected today (Including Boyd who he categorically ruled out stating he is on a decent contract at posh and there are other factor he doesn't get into) Basically in essence - Sit tight for 2 weeks until the loan window opens.
