Jewell Delighted With Taylor Signing
Friday, 31st Aug 2012 11:38

Blues boss Paul Jewell says Paul Taylor is an exciting signing for Town, the 24-year-old having signed a three-year deal yesterday. The Blues and Peterborough agreed a fee understood to be an initial £1.5 million rising to £2.5 million after milestone clauses earlier in the week.

Jewell told the club site: “Paul has been in our sights for a while and I’m delighted to have him here.

“He’s an exciting signing for us. He can play up front or wide. He’s got pace, an eye for goal. He’s not the biggest player around but he’s got a bit of bite about him. Most importantly he’s got a hunger to succeed.

“He caused us problem when we played Peterborough last season and I’m confident he will go on to be a very good signing for the club.”

Posh forums are still saying what a good player Taylor has been for them (and that Boyd is better). Let's hope we get Boyd too as I trust what fans say about players

Mike5ta - Posh forims also mention what a nice decent bloke Taylor is and that the one moment of weakness (years ago) is well and truly behind him

Grow up

I hope he's like a little Jamie Mackie who caused us all sorts of problems!!!
I like the way we have been playing chasing the game and pressuring from the front.
good luck to him and look forward to seeing the diversity we may have now!!!

It seems expensive - £1.5 - £2.5m for a player with his history and injury problems, but it's clear Jewell has been after him for a while and clearly rates him so we'll just have to trust Jewell's judgement for the moment!!!

Yes, he looks promisng but we need some one tall and physical up front too - unless jewell is going to play Murphy there?

If the price is 1.5m - 2.5m like rickyw above I think it's a bit expensive, you just have to wait and see what happens worry thing is Jewell don't make good buys but I won't put a list up. Welcome Paul to Ipswich Town I'm looking forward to seeing you play. Now town go out and get that centre half that's what is really needed

I can see PJ sticking with Martin situated behind Chopra, then Taylor on the right where his tenacity can add to our pressing game, and Murphy resuming his role on the left from last season. The two new players, between them, add height, a physical presence (Murphy), and real pace and dribbling ability to our attack (Taylor). Boyd would be a great addition too. Not sure where he would play but his goals and passing from midfield could really make the difference in tight games.

With Delaney gone PJ must have two centre backs lined up, surely? St Ledger is restless at Leicester, Broadfoot has been released by Rangers

mike5ta - nice constructive comment, well done.

Barry Fry was raving aboutthis guy last year and reckons he will go to the top. Now is his chance to show what he can do, wlecome aboard, son.

Bit surprise at the fee considering we didn't want to pay £1M for Davies...

Interesting times ahead. We have abundance of options in attack & midfield but no options in defence. Royle times ahead, I suspect. Allons-y!

Now lets get Boyd. A bit of class in midfield is worth paying for. His passing alone is worth a few quid of the budget and his goals will add a real threat in games. The fans want him - splash a bit of cash and go and get him!

Oh, and, has anyone mentioned a COUPLE OF DECENT CENTER BACKS?????

How come we haggled and haggled for weeks over whether to pay £0.6M-odd for Steve Davies (6ft1 tall, 21 goals in 83 for Derby), yet suddenly we spend £1.5M - £2.5M for Paul Taylor (5ft7 tall, 12 goals in 45 for Peterborough)?! It seems an awful lot of money to me.

this site drives me crazy....people can't be pleased....on the one hand it's we need players, PJ and Clegg aren;t doig anything, we keep losing out on players...then we sign one, and the comments are we overpaid for him, that's a lot of money blah blah blah

for those making comments on Davies, we did agree a fee, he did not want to come to us, and had made it clear he had no intention of signing for us.
