Blues boss Paul Jewell says he doesn’t expect to sign any more players before tonight’s 11pm transfer deadline.

Jewell, who has added Guirane N’Daw, Paul Taylor and Daryl Murphy to his squad, but doesn’t expect any further additions before the provision to bring in loan players is open to Football League clubs next week: “We’ve made numerous phonecalls and tried to do deals for other players which haven’t quite happened yet, which happens because the Premier League is still trading until 12 o’clock tonight and if they get the players they want, we might be able to get some players from the Premier League clubs [on loan] until January.

“I don’t think we’re going to bring anyone in today, but maybe after the window opens next week we’ll bring in some more players to the club.”

He says that despite reports to the contrary earlier, there is nothing currently happening with Peterborough’s George Boyd: “We spoke with him, I met with the lad and for different reasons the deal couldn’t be done.

“It’s one that could possibly be revisited as time goes along, we’ll have to wait and see.”

Meanwhile, Jewell says there has been no interest in any of his players - other than Ryan Stevenson who is in talks regarding a free transfer to Hearts - but would like to send some of his youngsters, including Ronan Murray, out on loan.

Scribble added 13:19 - Aug 31 Dont get me wrong i am a big PJ fan and do sympathise with him because he obviously is working on a small budget but cue the excuses in weeks to come of we know we are short at the back etc etc how many windows have been and gone since we all realised that, at the beginning of the window he said he knows he needs cb's and unbelievably in that time we have managed to reduce the number we had which was already not enough so really defensively we are worse off than we were 6 weeks ago!

Jewell is the last of a managerial stable of 90's managers that would rather sign a player than work with the ones he has. We need a coach, someone who knows systems, tactics, formations and scouting. With a defense of Cresswell, Smith, Chambers, Edwards, Whight and Ainsley we will ship goals for fun.
