Jewell: Developments on Kourouma
Friday, 31st Aug 2012 15:16

Blues boss Paul Jewell says there have been developments with French midfielder Cheick Kourouma’s situation with the 20-year-old now looking set to sign the one-year deal TWTD revealed he had agreed back in June.

Town have had to obtain agreements from all his former clubs from the age of 12 onwards that they would waive FIFA compensation which is technically due to them. The final few of those were still outstanding as of this morning.

Paris-born Kourouma, who is currently sidelined with a knee injury, spent time with French sides CO Vincennes, ASBR Football, Dijon FCO and US Torcy and Sochaux, who he joined at 15, before he moved on to Spanish club Real Zaragoza and then on to Genoa, who he left last season.

Jewell said: “I feel a bit sorry for him but Simon Clegg tells me that there might be hope for him. We’ve got until 11 this evening.

“I actually said, ‘Look that’s it’, there was so much red tape, there are so many clubs coming out of the woodwork, it was getting a bit tiresome. So I said we’d have to bring it to an end. But there have been developments.”

TWTD was first to reveal the Blues' interest in the central midfielder back in May.

Is there much point in wasting the little time left in this transfer window on someone who might not even make the first team?

Can we please concentrate on getting in some decent defensive cover?

Also, can we speculate some of the cash we've saved on the wage bill (by getting rid of the also-rans and never-gonna-runs) on giving George Boyd a fair deal for his ability and make it a more attractive prospect to sign on the dotted line?

Perhaps a player with his passing and scoring ability can take some of the heat off the defence by not giving the ball away in crucial areas of the pitch?

Still need to sure up the defence though, as a priority!

I expect him to have his contract settled up in six months time and then move to Palace.

Can't understand it really. If he becomes a star and we sell him on for millions, then we may have to pay a few 100 grand compensation to his former clubs. So what! If he fades into obscurity then also no problem. Also as one of the above posters pointed out, he's a free agent, so the transfer window shouldn't apply.

Here's a player that wants to play for the club - going round Europe in a wheelchair sorting out bureaucratic ballbags just to play for the ressies!
That's the spirit!

PaoloMaldini - stop being so ridiculous, he will obviously be moving to Hearts after 6 months, not Palace.

How many weeks has Clegg had to resolve this? Potentially yet another failure on his behalf. He has to go for the sake of OUR club. He is nothing short of a disaster.

We sign players for the future and people complain he isn't ready for the first team yet.

Unbelievable.

For all of this hard work and red tape, thought they would have offered him a longer contract - however, should he perform well, catch the eye of a prem club and want to move on then I can see us cashing in on some of that there compensation... Win win all round I hope!
