Jewell Pleased With Ainsley
Monday, 3rd Sep 2012 06:00

Blues manager Paul Jewell had praise for Jack Ainsley after the Felixstowe-based right-back made his first home league start for Town in Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Huddersfield.

Jewell was impressed with the 21-year-old, who was making his first senior start for a year: “I thought he did well. He gave everything he’s got, he put a couple of great balls into the box. They put a ball into the box and scored from it, Jack put a great ball in and it went straight across the box.

“I thought he stuck to his task well because Danny Ward’s a good player. I was pleased with Jack. I thought he was honest, which we know he is, going forward he was eager, sometimes a bit too eager, but I have to say I’m pleased with his performance.”

The Blues boss felt penalty-saving hero Scott Loach had had the busiest afternoon of his Town career so far: “I know we got beaten 6-0 last week but he didn’t have any real saves to make.

“Today he’s made one just after half-time, he’s made a double save, then the penalty save and then one late on from James Vaughan.”

Jewell thought Michael Chopra took his goal, which he thought ought to have been the winner, with great confidence: “It was a good finish, there was a bit of a deflection to get him there, but it was a cool finish, however, we just couldn’t hold on.”

Well done PJ for praising up Ainsley. I thought that he had a good match on Saturday. A lot of so called fans only remember the Peterborough debacle last season when on his full league debut took all the flack .

Agree with PJ here thought he played well and looked like he was playing for the shirt and made the more experienced Chambers look poor. Although don't think he is the long term answer PJ needs to bring in at least 2 new CBs and maybe another fall back depending on when Elliot Hewitt is going to be fit to play.

Yes, exactly my thoughts. I was wondering why Ainsley was still at the club, but he did pretty well Saturday and looks an able backup.

thought he played quiet well and will grow with confidence. maybe Edwards in front of him to allow both attacking and defensive options?

Well played Jack, is good to see the Academy producing again, yes he may be a late developer but worth the wait after that performance, Come on you blues stay positive!!

When Hewitt/Edwards fit he needs to go out on loan and play regularly to improve his overall game.

Jack did very well on Saturday, obviously being a defender by nature as opposed to Carlos I can see why he fared well in the position.

In my opinion he played better on Saturday as a right back than the other times I've seen him play as a centre back... maybe he could have a new position!

CreamCrazy - I don't think he ever was a centre back, was he? I know he's played there for us before but I'm sure he's always been a full back, apart from when he started out in the youths as a striker.

think he was a centre forward ? Was told once that Richard Wright thought he was the best finisher at the club !!

i also heard he was the best striker in the club through the youth teams and the best finisher. But i thought he was our best outfield player by far. well done jacko.

Very impressed with jack! He must have felt the pressure more than anybody on that pitch Saturday and delivered! I would be more than happy to see him start week in week out providing he can keep to the standard he showed us! Its great to see him given the chance to shine! Well done jack youve proved the doubters wrong :)

If you look at his record as a forward when he was a youth you will see he put them away for fun with England too!

I think it was Keane (or at least, under Keane's reign) that he was converted to a defender!

I thought the boy did very well and looks to have a sweet right foot on him.

Good luck to the boy and well done pj for giving the boy a chance.

I was very impressed with Jack. He is not a centre back agreed, but give him a season in front of Edwards and he'll be putting in great crosses for fun for the strikers to put away.

Agree with all the comments above, will have to see what hewitts like as another young full back, few years will be spoilt for choice at the right full back position, now give the lad another contract!

Ainsley deserves more starts, if he learns to read games, composure will improve.. good to see competition at RB..
