Jewell: We Can Turn Things Around
Thursday, 20th Sep 2012 01:54

Blues boss Paul Jewell has insisted that his Town side are capable of turning their season around despite a disappointing start which sees them sitting in 23rd in the Championship after six games. The Blues have failed to score in their last two matches — both 2-0 defeats — despite creating plenty of opportunities in front of goal.

Jewell said: “I think we can turn it around. We’ve just got to take the chances. You guys [the media] have sat up here with numerous managers and they’ll have said the same thing - ‘goals change games’ - and if we get the first goal then you’ll see a different side to us.

“It’s not as if we’re not creating chances, we’re creating really good opportunities but we’ve got to be more ruthless in each box.”

The Blues boss is likely to be without recent signing Paul Taylor when Charlton visit Portman Road on Saturday, the former Peterborough man having left Portman Road on crutches after last night’s match due to an ankle injury sustained in the second half, while fellow frontman Michael Chopra could also be a doubt.

The 28-year-old tweeted: “Let's hope my thigh is better for the weekend, lots of rest and ice. Gutted about tonight, we need to start taking our chances.”

Wolves boss StÃ¥le Solbakken was pleased to notch his first away win as the manager of the Midlanders but admitted it was a close game: “It was hard work. It could have gone either way.

"I think in the first half both teams were very well organised and there were few chances and it was difficult for either team to open the other one up.

“In the second half there were a lot of chances for both teams. I think we struggled with the long ball into our penalty area, we defended too deep and even if we won the first ball, the second one could always cause us problems.

“But we also had some great chances; Kevin Doyle hit the inside of the post and Bjorn Sigurdarson should have scored at 0-0, so it could have gone either way.”

The Norwegian had sympathy with Tommy Smith for his own goal: “He was unlucky there. I didn’t really see what happened, but we haven’t had much luck so far this season, so maybe it was our turn today.”

Solbakken says his first six games as a manager in English football have shown him just how close the Championship is: “What I’ve seen so far is that there isn’t a great difference between the teams.

“I think that Ipswich are in a difficult situation when you look at the statistics so far, but they could have had points today and I saw their game with Middlesbrough and they were very unlucky and they drew at home with Blackburn, so I think that shows how even this league is.”

I've been quite for a while as I've had enough of reasonable contributors getting slagged off and voted down for expressing their opinions. However, unfortunately us doubters continue to be proved right and the future doesn't look good. Just because Keane was an ar&*^%le and PJ seems a decent bloke, doens't hide the fact that we are probably worse off now than we were 2 years ago. Both Managers were dubious choices at best and as with others I still think Magic should have been given another season. However, we are where we are and it is worrying. Something is clearly wrong behind the scenes and has been for some time. Some people predicted that ME's interest would wane once the Olympics were over and you have to suspect this might be the case. And you have to question the wisdom of hanging a manager out to dry in this way if you have any long term commitment to the club. However, the imediate problem is PJ - he hasn't got a plan and I am afraid is a busted flush and will not turn this around. Yes, we may get to mid table but despite rather than because of him. The defensive situation is a joke as is his treatment of Hyam and the bizarre decisions about Delaney and Bullard. If I were an owner who had a long term plan for my club/company I would sack the CE for overseeing a redcuction in quality in return for a hike in prices and a fall in profits and sack the Manager for piss poor performance and wasting resources. As to alternatives I'd get a football savvy CE in and bring Matt Holland or another young hungry coach in (Matt's been very quite in the media recently - is he doing his badges?)

Buglog..Ive heard those rumours too....last night trudging back to my car a group of people were talking about it, how Redknapp is pally with ME...he could attract the right players at least. I would love to have him at our beloved club. If we dont win on Saturday that has got to be Jewells lot surely? ..mind you we may end up with Hutchings in charge temporarily....aaaaargh!!!

Jewell....if we score 1st goal you'll see a different side to us.

In the very recent past he has bleated on about how when we go a goal up we panic and can't hold on to a lead.

Yet more hypocrisy from the fool. Time to go Jewell.

Im all with the banner!! Surely someone on here works at a printers etc?

IT'S ABOUT BLOODY TIME THAT THIS CLUB LISTENED TO IT'S LONG SUFFERING FANS!

Jewell has not even made 1% progress from this time last season, If i did that i would be sacked. Simple as.
If he stays untill xmas then i fear the worst for 'OUR' club. I really do!
The time to act is now!

PART OF JEWELL'S POST MATCH ANALYSIS....."because if you don't do the tiny little things that people in the crowd don't quite appreciate but managers do, like closing down, getting little blocks in, little things like that, being in the right areas, standing up and being strong in little situations"
How patronising is this? I have been watching my beloved club for over 3 decades now and do not appreciate the manager insulting us in this way. You can be assured Mr Jewell that we as fans fight for every ball, albeit from a distance, and fully appreciate the "little things" to which you refer. Be under no illusions Town fans, this is a swipe at us and our intelligence and to me suggests Jewell is clearly aware of the negativity amongst a large percentage of fans. Don't get me wrong he is just as entitled to his opinion as we fans are but to call into question our knowledge and awareness of the game is insulting, especially as we are not the ones currently masterminding this once great clubs descent into oblivion.

Scientists have announced that they may have discovered a previously unknown level of incompetence.
'We have hypothesised for a long time that a level of proficiency so incredibly small as to be almost undetectable could theoretically occur, but now it appears that we may be close to proving its existence', said a researcher.
Incompetence research enjoyed its golden age in the late 1980's when the Clueless, the Useless and the Hopeless elements were all identified in Ipswich within the space of three years, but it was probably the discovery of the Total F*ckwit in the same area in April 2009 which revitalized the entire field and led directly to the recent breakthrough. Scientists have dubbed this latest discovery the Jewell Particle.
'The Jewell Particle, if confirmed, will represent a level of capability several magnitudes below even the Total F*ckwit', explained the researcher. 'It really is almost impossible to overstate just how tiny a degree of competence we are talking about here'.

Osborne I would settle for mid table mediocrity right now as the red lights are flashing and we are in real danger of dropping into the 3rd tier of English football. After Charlton and Barnsley we have some very tough fixtures and although they are all tough we must win on Saturday and pick up something at Barnsley. If we fail on both of these scenarios I think it will be the end of PJ. I am hopeful we can get 3 points on Saturday but only if we show the passion of say the West Ham game last season. Why do we never come out with all guns blazing. I like PJ and and know he is passionate about the Club but I now have serious doubts that he is up to the job. There are so many statistics that go against him dreadful defence poor signings heaviest defeats we have had in years the list goes on I'm afraid. The biggest problem is not addressing our defensive frailties - if you don't concede you don't lose and at the moment our back four are iffy and agree with an earlier post Loach is not convincing either. Very sad times for our once great Club but at least I have been around to see some the good times.

problem is, we've been in this situation before with Keane, cant defend, cant score. It's not a great recipe really. I have been a fan of Jewell, but unfortunately i'm now beginning to think he will struggle to turn this around. I think we need someone to come in to motivate the team, and have a definite idea of how we are going to set up our style of play. At the moment i get the impression Jewell is becoming indecisive as he is under pressure. That's not to say i wont support ITFC to his last game in charge. But it is time for a change. Steve Coterril would be a good shout. We need someone with fire in their belly.

The only thing that got us out of this sort of muddle last season was goals from midfielder Andrews, we now dont have a midfield player who looks as if he has got a goal in him. When will Martin learn he undoes all his good work by giving away a silly free kick that usually turns into a goal!

After last night why does everyone think that this is time for a clearout. What ITFC really needs is a clearout out of its' complacent, negative and moaning "fans".Imagine thinking that is good ides to use "Tracor Boys" as a nicknamr fot the team. It probably sounded a good idea in the Black Horse but for those fans that hve ever travelled out side Suffolk it stinks.
Get behind Jewell but start taking chunks out of ME. He is the man wo had preventeed Jewell from putting his together this summer. Clegg is just a lickspittle an d he'll do wjatever he's Told. Get rid of Hutchiings and McCarthy , they shouldn't be coaching elite sport and look like a tub of lard.
Common on Jewell , don't "think" you can do it, go and see Evnas and get the 3-4 players we need.

another manager would make no difference. you cannot make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. town have gone downhill under three managers though magilton, as it now turns out should have been given longer. finishing in 8th place, what would we give to reach those dizzy heights now? you would think we can scrape a point against charlton but unlikely. message to management, please stop drafting these ridiculous player "statements" . three meaningless ones in a week from drury and now luongo who doesnt even know where we are in the table. why would he care, the whole loan business benefits the loanee and his club far more than the host club.

ANYONE know anyone who works at a printers? This is a serious request. It won't be ready in time for Charlton but it needs to be done.

Anyone who wants to come in on it with me the better...

Hang on a minute!! Plenty of people are calling for PJ's head, but... who do we replace him with? When RK was sacked I was hoping ITFC were going to get Chris Hughton. Now he's got himself a job I do not see many choices.

Division 1 here we come. Gonna have to start from there. Much as I hate to say it, that's what Narwich had to do!!

Keanish, the company I work for use a printers called DSD, only problem is they're in Norfolk, may not be too welcoming of our idea, the banner would probably read Jewell IN Clegg IN Evans IN lol

Not having the threat of our scoring goals means that our defence is under greater pressure.
Good management solves problems at half time and there is second half improvement.
We are clearly not there yet.
