Martin: We Can Beat Brighton
Tuesday, 2nd Oct 2012 06:03

Lee Martin insists second-bottom Ipswich will travel to take on Championship leaders Brighton believing they can bank all three points.

He and his team-mates will be seeking their first win in seven league games at a venue where they were beaten 3-0 back in February on their first ever visit to the new American Express Community Stadium.

Martin, 25, recalled: “I thought we did okay that day but once again it was a case of making silly errors. I thought we were still in the game right up to the end of the first half but after that we sort of crumbled a little bit.

“We’re going into it knowing what they are all about but we’ve just got to worry about our game. Brighton try to play the right way and that’s encouraging from a football point of view and I’m pretty sure they will be up there come the end of the season.”

Town could not have asked for a more demanding workload since they play host to second-placed Cardiff on Saturday, after which there will be an international break until the next round of fixtures on October 20th when Ipswich are at Hull.

Martin added: “It’s such a tight league and you never quite know what to expect. We never go into a game looking to get beaten or to get a draw. We always go in to win but sometimes you never know what team will turn up.

“On Saturday we played a team that had just won 5-0 at Barnsley so in the main it looks like a great point. That’s this league; it’s a funny old league.

“The main thing is not to lose, but if you can take a point away from home and then win your home games you are going the right way.

“And there’s no point complaining about injuries either. That’s what happens when you’re down there. You have to make your own luck sometimes.

“There’s no point in moping around, you just have to get on with it. You need to stay strong as a group and work together going into the next game — then hope you come out of it with all three points.”

If we lose 1-0 tonight it will be fantastic some thing to build on.

Karlosfandangal - How poor are Posh? Put it this way, do you see us being able to go to Hull and pull off a 3-1 win? As poor as Posh are, we are worse

I know that this won't win me any positive comments and yet, looking deep into myself and being totally honest, I can't see us getting anything other than a lesson in scoring from Brighton.

Don't get me wrong - I don't WANT this, I am just being honest about my level of faith in our, ahem, 'team' at the moment.

I'll be very glad indeed to be proved wrong tonight.

COYB - please.... because it's getting very, VERY painful being a Town fan right now...

I'm pretty sure that they won 5-0 at Birmingham, not Barnsley
