Mohsni Back on Trial as Jewell Targets Two Players
Thursday, 4th Oct 2012 13:05

TWTD understands that Southend defender Bilel Mohsni has returned to Playford Road on trial and is likely to be amongst two players manager Paul Jewell is hoping to sign on loan before Saturday's game against Cardiff.

Jewell said: “There might be a possibility of maybe one or two players coming in [before Saturday]. I know I keep on saying that on Thursday or Friday.

“I know we’ve got a two-week break after Saturday but we’re trying to strengthen the squad.”

The versatile Frenchman, 25, was previously with Town for a week last month but turned down the option to return for a second spell and subsequently spent time with Birmingham.

Last week, Jewell tried to sign QPR striker DJ Campbell on loan as cover for the injured Paul Taylor, but the 30-year-old was expected to join Blackpool, although that move is yet to go through.

Looks like we are going to need a striker as well with the breaking news of an investigation into Chopra and others betting scams

Bizarre change of mind from Jewell it appears. Thought this guy had burnt his bridges with the club

How's that work then?

The club were sold a pup when they bought Chopra. He was 3rd/4th choice at Cardiff and has done nothing for us. Hopefully he'll score a hat-trick on Saturday and make me eat my words.

Jewell wanted a second look at him. It was Moshni who wanted to explore othe options. I guess the grass wasn't greener!

What has chopra been up to?

Ericclacton - superb name btw - Chopra and two other footballers have been charged with betting-related corruption by the British Horseracing Authority.

If found guilty, he could be banned from entering racecourses...

sssh dont say a word against Chopra, hell only go on Twitter and say us on TWTD havent a clue about football, one thing is for sure we hadnt a clue what a problem we signed from Cardiff,no wonder hes been off form,a 2.5 million gambling debt and now race fixing all hanging over him

Chopra turning out to be a let down on all fronts. Agree we need a striker as chopra will have other things on his mind. Moshni could turn out to be a good addition if he can curb his temper.

Surely Jewell wanted to have another look at him which is why he was offered another trial ,it was the player that originally turned it down .So Jewell has not changed his mind ?
Connor on loan ,just pay the wages Evans

People have to realize this was all before he joined us and the B.H.A. do not have any power or sanction over football. Read the article Phil has put up. The F.A could fine him but doubt they will even bother as long as he has not been fixing football matches as well which I would very much doubt....

chopra is under investigation by the British Horseracing Authority (BHA) over an investigation into "suspicious betting activity" - but AFAIK the BHA can't send you to prison.
Getting him banned from horse races is probably in all our interests.
He is probably distracted, but he has played well with huge gambling debts hanging over him. So he is able to focus under pressure.
People talking about prison are a bit premature. The standard of proof for a criminal conviction is higher than the BHA need. Betting debts are a grey area (in fact they are often unenforceable in a court of law). Also you don't know the role he played in the alleged race fixing. The people he owed money to may have told him to place bets to repay them and he may have known nothing.
Wow is that the red rashers display team in action?

Well done Paul, takes a big man to re-open doors. Mohsni by far has been the most impressive defensive trialist and the best fit for the club. Lets hope he impresses again and we can start sorting things out
