Mohsni to Sign Three-Month Deal
Thursday, 4th Oct 2012 15:18

Southend defender Bilel Mohsni has confirmed that he expects to join Town on a three-month loan deal tomorrow. Earlier today, TWTD revealed that the Frenchman was back at Playford Road for a second spell on trial.

The versatile centre-half, striker or winger told the Southend Echo: “I expect to sign for Ipswich tomorrow and it will be a three-month deal.

“I came back in to train today and they put me through a fitness test on my own to make sure I’m fit enough to play.

“I’m really pleased that everything is close to being sorted and Ipswich are a good club in the Championship, so I’m happy to come here.”

Town boss Paul Jewell has said he is looking to sign players on loans with a view to permanent contracts in January.

The 25-year-old, who has fallen out with the Shrimpers, impressed during a week-long trial last month but turned down the chance to return for a second spell and spent time with Birmingham.

Paris-born Mohsni, who is primarily a centre-half, played for French lower league clubs CO Les Ulis, US Saint-Georges and Sainte-Geneviève Sports before joining Southend after a trial in July 2010.

Southend rebuffed a £250,000 offer from Blackpool in January 2011 with Mohsni having made a good early impression.

He faced the Blues in the 1-1 pre-season draw at Roots Hall prior to the start of the 2011/12 season, playing one half at the back and one up front and almost getting himself sent off for clashing with Lee Martin, Andy Drury amongst others in a lively, effective and not a little volatile performance.

Last season, cult figure Mohsni operated as a striker and then as a winger for Paul Sturrock’s side but failed to show for the start of pre-season training this time around as he was looking to play at a higher level, subsequently joining West Ham on trial.

The Hammers were impressed enough to offer £150,000 for 6ft 3in tall Mohsni but the Shrimpers refused the offer and the player returned to France.

He subsequently spent time with Celtic on trial before joining the Blues, during which time he scored in the 6-0 U21s victory over Cardiff.

Mohsni might not be Town's only signing before the weekend with Paul Jewell having revealed he could make two additions to his squad. The second is likely to be a striker with QPR's DJ Campbell having been targeted last week as cover for the injured Paul Taylor.

You never know, Jewell might really think out of the box and START with only 10 men! The monster can play at CB instead of Smith and CF instead of Chopra at the same time! Sod it, lets start with 9 men and have him taking Drury's position as well!! Has to be the way forward.

Good signing, now show us what you can do.

Can everyone give Chopra a break please. I know the responses will probably be "how many breaks does he need" etc etc but when he turns it on he is a fine striker, he just needs his boots to do the talking

Finidi George was a fine midfielder when he turned it on. Shame it was for only one game and then we were relegated.

People should keep in mind that the Chopra incident occurred before he had even signed for us so really, its not exactly relevant to the 'breaks' we've given him is it?

J4ck22, so do you think Clegg knew he had signed a CHEAT? So many people missing the real issue here.

It was good that he had the self belief to shop around a little rather than just grab the second week training opportunity. Reckon he is going to be a real favourite.

Hahahaha! Oh good god. Things just get more and more laughable. This is honestly the least credible Town have ever, ever been. We are full of ne'er-do-wells, scoundrels and vagabonds no one else wants. Portman Road is a p*ss-pit into which are thrown all the diseased and decaying bodies of players no other club wants. It's the only reason we got Chopra in the first place.

And as for all these calls to support these troubled players, come what may??!!! I'll tell you what - no. It could just be the case that some Town fans no longer want to pay exorbitant amounts of money to support and fund the activities of criminals who under-perform on the pitch. I don't care if it was in his (recent) past. He is clearly a fool and is not the type of character I want wearing a Town shirt.

Where is the sign over Portman Road that reads 'Broken Players Retirement Home'? I must have missed it.

It's time to light the stakes and march on Portman Road to take our club back! To quote John of Gaunt in Richard II (imagine it as if spoken by John Cobbold):

This blessed plot, this earth, this realm, this [Ipswich],
This nurse, this teeming womb of [England managers],
Fear'd by their breed, and famous by their birth,
Renowned for their deeds as far from home [...]

This [club] of such dear souls, this dear dear [Town],
Dear for her reputation through the world,
Is now leas'd out - I die pronouncing it -
Like to a tenement or pelting farm.
[Ipswich] [...] is now bound in with shame,
With inky blots and rotten parchment bonds;
That [Ipswich], that was wont to conquer others,
Hath made a shameful conquest of itself.

Indeed.

hoofreakingrarrgh. about time Jewell used his brain. Covers positions we need to cover, not gonna break the budget, has something to proove, could make a profit on him if he does well, and can actually afford to keep him permanantly too

Suzanna_Gekkaloys - I think you might be overreacting a tad.

It would seem to be me that this lad will add a bit of steel wherever we want to play him.

His versatility has to be an asset on a tight budget. My only concern is his attitude.

This thread is supposed to be about Mohsni, yet some are harping on about Chopra.

Surely to have any credibility you should know which news you're commenting on.

Good luck to him, let's hope we can see the good side of Mohsni - the side West Ham wanted.

Can't really go wrong on a 3 month deal. Our squad is still a bit on the thin side
and you never know he may be a rip roaring success. We are in desperate need of a tall target man so if utilised could play up top. Good luck I say and hope the guy is a success.
