Jewell Wants Martin Situation Sorted
Friday, 5th Oct 2012 06:04

Town boss Paul Jewell believes Lee Martin’s contract situation needs to be sorted one way or another but says that there is no dialogue at present. The Blues manager says he has left owner Marcus Evans and chief executive Simon Clegg to deal with the issue.

Evans and the midfielder’s agent spoke in August but earlier in the week the 25-year-old, who has said he’s keen to stay at the club, revealed that his agent hadn’t heard from the club for several weeks.

Jewell says he’s not entirely sure where things are at present as he’s concentrating on on-field matters, but feels the matter needs to reach a conclusion: “I’ve left Simon and Marcus to deal with the agent, that’s as far as I’m aware. I’m not aware of any dialogue.

“That’s something that I understand needs to be sorted out one way or the other but at the moment I don’t think there’s any progress.

“I spoke to his agent when we played Blackpool. On the Friday night his agent came to the hotel and I had a chat with her and she was going to go back to Simon and Marcus with what they were looking for, and that’s the last I heard.

“I understand that people have got their own personal situations but at the moment I’m just trying to get results to try and get us up the table.”

It does need to be sorted, as at the moment it looks bad on the club (who are made out, rightly or wrongly, by several players to be poor at communicating over contract issues) and bad on Martin (who said in the summer he just left things to his agent, then he hits out at the club in the media).

When are we going to stop mucking our players about, if they had sorted it out in the summer and LM rejected it, we should of sold him and got some money in rather than dragging it out until the new year.

I doubt he will stay, he was quick to change the subject when he was asked about taking a pay cut like others.

What could possibly go wrong with Clegg in charge.I mean this sort of thing has always been promtly dealt with before to ITFC's advantage.

Not good enough from ITFC yet again. Shambles. I suggest ME & SC need to start earning there money because to me they are doing sod all for this club.

Just to remind some of you, first and foremost, to everyone except the fans, this is a business not a charity, and you always want to get the best deal you can. I'm sure ME and SC are well aware of how they want to play this. As much as some on here dont give them credit, you dont become millionaires without a bit of business know how.

We must get Lee signed up asap as he is one of the few members of the current squad who wants to play for us.

bluearmy4life - It IS ME's money in the first place, so he does not need to start earning anything.

I hope this will be fixed though, I can't see Martin having loads of other attractive options.

As much as i want him to stay you have to remember hes one of the only Keane signings remaining so i'd imagine his wages are pretty big! Just hope they can get it sorted, we shoudn't have to lose a key player every year.

We never seem to learn from our past mistakes in letting contracts run down before a new deal is offered. This must be entirely down to the owner and Simon Clegg who I believe does take an age to sort things out. His strategy seems to be never do today what you can do in 3 months time which is not the way to do things in this day and age. As for Martin he says he wants to stay but he must realise things have changed since the bigs bucks days of Roy Keane. Wage structures will change dramatically now in view of FFP and Martin will do well to find a Club willing to pay an exhorbitant salary. Personally I am not bothered either way whether he stays but if he is not prepared to sign a new deal then he must be sold in January and not go free at the end of the season.

Lee Martin finished last season well, but this term has been poor like the rest of our overrated squad.. He isnt worth a contract.. Just want them all to prove us muppets wrong!
