Jewell: Loanee Situation Not Ideal
Monday, 8th Oct 2012 16:43

Town boss Paul Jewell has admitted that the loan situation is not ideal but says he needs to bring in experienced players rather than “younger, hungry” signings until the Blues’ league position is more secure. The additions of Richie Wellens, DJ Campbell and Bilel Mohsni late last week took the total of loanees to seven.

Jewell told the club site: “Bringing in loans is not ideal, I know that, but it’s the situation we find ourselves in.

"We’re not flush with millions of pounds to just go out and spend on whoever we want.

“We keep talking about this being a long-term project, though I know that doesn’t wash with a lot people and I understand that.

“We’d like to go with younger, hungry players, but until we can get a foothold in this division and move forward to a stronger position, we have to go with experience.”

Meanwhile, Portman Road hasn't made the short-list of 2015 rugby World Cup venues, despite "an initial conversation" having taken place.

Copy and paste of his script for October 2011. Look for upcoming episodes including 'we got it wrong this summer, it won't happen again' and 'we want to sort out the contract situation so it doesn't happen again next season'.

Wellens will get recalled by Leicester when the month is up.... very odd signing in my opinion. Where is that powerful striker Jewell you talked about prior to signing Taylor? Can't wait for the 8th loan player and also when Tommy Smith gets released by mutual consent as he is now a bench warmer. That's what ITFC do nowadays....

Quote :- We'd like to go with younger, hungry players, but until we can get a foothold in this division and move forward to a stronger position, we have to go with experience.” So we are back to square one! this was what Mr Jewell was saying when he started at the club, how can fans have faith in this man

What a load of bollocks.

Jewell has lost his credibility a long time ago with the "customers" of ITFC, however no other manager would be able to stop the rot in the current situation.

Transfers /Loans should have been done long before now.If we had money in the summer we should have dealt with it then.Who is at fault really Evans ? Clegg ?or Jewell, we would all like to know !! This is desperate dealing too late , whatever happened to pre season signing , Golf , Olympics ? The hieracy at this club are really taking us fans for granted . We need more investment where is Michael Spencer and his old friends ?

Why is he still here.

I have never heard such utter sh1te.

So he is admitting that plan A, B, C etc etc never worked so to get us all the way up the table to 20th we need a load of people nobody wanted!!!! Or we can only have for a month!!

Unbelievable incompetence.

Should be a politician

He's had nearly 2 years to sort this kind of mess....too many loanees and players leaving for nowt at the end of their contracts. It's got worse if anything.

.....and the main reason we can't get a foothold in this division is that so many players come and go every season, and that's just those under contract. Throw in a load of short-term loans every year to paper over the cracks in the squad and the turnover is enormous. Until we break this cycle nothing will improve. Higgy, Wellens, Campbell, Murphy, these are all decent players but we can't sign them permanently because (a) we can't afford the wages or (b) their clubs don't want to sell them in case they need them. So why can we not identify targets in advance who we can actually sign as opposed to those we would like but have no hope of getting? It has nothing to do with their age, every team needs a blend of youth and experience, but rather with their contractual situation. Other clubs seem to manage it to a reasonable extent so why can't we? I'm afraid the answer to this question lies in the boardroom as much as with the manager. And it is disingenuous to suggest that we have no money to spend; we spent a shed load of it on Taylor when his position is one of the few that we already have well covered. Groundhog day, repeat till fade.

Paul. Second bottom of the championship not ideal. Now please leave. To hear your excuses once i could put up with. We seem to be listening to the same broken record for too long. Jewell please go.

If us fans saw any sign of improvement since the Jewell/Clegg partnership we wouldn't be so frustrated. unfortunately there doesnt seem to be a plan or agenda. Jewell has spoken about the same issues since he joined but has done nothing to solve them. For example defence concerns and giving away silly goals(what do we do in training). players being allowed to see their contracts out(vowed to not let it happen again). crazy number of loan players(promised this wouldn't happen this year). lack of quality signings(vowed to get players in this season). but worse than all of this is that Jewell appears to be completely tactically inept. with an invisible owner and a football virgin actually running our club how are we going to get out of this mess????? more by luck than judgement i think.

I'm going to disagree with the lot of you. It's totally logical.

Personally, I'm at the point we're I'd get rid of him for getting us into this position. But he is still in the job, whatever we thing. And while that is the case, I'd rather he did something to get us out of the bottom three than sat around scratching his nuts.

Sad thing is, if he hadn't signed any reinforcements (loan or otherwise), people would be on here moaning that he wasn't doing anything to get us out of our predicament.

No structure, no plan, no man management skills, no sign of fresh ideas. The loan situation is a desperate attempt to get results. If PJ knew his players so well he would of weighed up these options before the season started instead of naming benches that were never going to be strong enough as back up. Another quote after the Middlesbrough defeat was 'I believe in my players', then he goes and signs four players on loan, crazy.

"My players are too old", "my players are too young", "it's a short term project to get promoted", "its a long term plan", "we had too many loan players last season, that won't happen again", "We need more loan players. "

You're not up to the job Mr Jewell go back to making amateur films.

Sorry, I really hate commenting on here when what I'm saying is negative, but is this not the same plan we had when he took over? Keane had left us near the bottom, so Jewell brought in players like Bullard on loan to get us out of the mess. Fast forward to now, and it's the same old thing, except this time it's Jewell's own mess.

I do agree with Superfranz, that I'd rather he did something than nothing, but it only serves to highlight the incompetence at all levels that has brought us to this point. At the end of the day, we shouldn't need loans, and Jewell should have learnt his lesson.

Surely he'll have to go if we don't win by the end of the month? Some huge games coming up. Karl Robinson is my man, or Bllly Davies, if things don't turn around sharply, and permanently. There's no point us going n a 5 game streak, and then not winning for 10 and acting as if those 5 wins have reset the clock, as occurred last year.

We ahd a foothold in this dividsion Jewell, 15th!! Tosser
He made hugh blunders last season signing too many old players that were never gonig to help stabilise the Team. So he nows finds himself panicing with loanees in th ehope that they will get up the division. Well Mr Jewell your plan is flawed because you;ve no idea what to do to and we're likely to remain in the bottom three for some time.
The break gives ME the ideal time to sack him and at least let new manager get the players organised.
I think the squad as it is could do better but we need new ideas which Jewell doesnt possess. His tactics and style are very poor and all i can say is that he was very lucky at Wigan. Derby learnt quicker than we have so please ME get rid of NOW

“Bringing in loans is not ideal, I know that, but it's the situation we find ourselves in.
"We're not flush with millions of pounds to just go out and spend on whoever we want.

And we are in this situation due to your mis management Paul. You have had a season and a half now and we are arguably in a worse position now than when you arrived.
Throwing money at the problem is not the answer. Try working with the players ( mostly perfectly able players for this level) you have in training. More loanees, short term at that, is a no win situation. By the time they have reached match fitness and/or bedded in, they return to their clubs and we are back to square one. Hyam, Carson, Smith...our players, keen and hungry are perfectly capable of the level of performance of recent weeks.
Please do the honourable thing and leave...NOW.

Ffs, more hot air than a bingo caller.

He must be so dizzy the amount of circles he goes around in. Does he not realise the amount of times he contradicts himself. And as for money, he has spent over £2m on Chopra and Taylor.

I go to work and even people ask me there has he gone yet. We are a mess and a laughing stock.

It is time for the fans of this club to make a stand and what they really think. We are all too polite.

The current situation will just go on and on and on whilst we have a thick manager in charge - sorry if this opinion offends thick supprters but it's the simple truth.

We need a manager with a footballing brain on/in him.
