Reo-Coker Deal Done - Report
Saturday, 13th Oct 2012 17:57

Town are reported to have signed former Bolton midfielder Nigel Reo-Coker. The 28-year-old is a free agent, having left the Trotters at the end of last season.

Reo-Coker was understood to have held talks with the Blues last summer prior to signing for Bolton and was linked again during this close season. While we understand there is definite interest on Town’s part, the club are yet to confirm that a deal has been completed.

Recently he has been training with Charlton and had also been linked with Crystal Palace.

Born in Thornton Heath, Reo-Coker started his career with the old Wimbledon, making his senior debut in the 2002/03 season. His displays for the Dons impressed West Ham who signed him for £500,000 in January 2004.

After three and a half not always happy years at Upton Park, during which time he captained the side under Alan Pardew, the former England U21 skipper joined Aston Villa for £8.5 million in July 2007 having asked for a transfer.

He left Villa when his contract expired last summer and moved on to Bolton, where he made 42 starts and scored three goals as they dropped out of the Premier League. In May he activated a relegation clause in his contract and left the Reebok Stadium.

Capped 23 times at U21 level, scoring once, Reo-Coker rejected the international advances of Sierra Leone, the country of his doctor father’s birth and where he lived for six years as a child.

Luongo & Wellens are both temporary, Rio-Coker at 28 and on a permanent deal is an excellent signing. With him Higingbotham and Campbell that should be a quality spine to any team at this level.

It seems the best way to sign a player is for it not to be leaked. Welcome aboard!

Good signing if reports are true, although we're overstocked with centre midfielders now. Could be that someone is on the way out, maybe N'Daw?

awesome signing now thats what we want to see more of. add a bit of steel to midfield. let some of the younger ones go out on loan and tempory additions go back.

Surely the club will have to offload a couple players otherwise they are going to be some very unhappy primadonas stomping round PR!!!

Norris was the last midfielder that actually got forward and supported the front 2, hence he scored lots of goals and it's been a big problem for us finding a midfielder to replicate that since, as most have been defensively minded.

Despite his obvious quality, Shola is a defensively minded player and I can't see him adding much to the plethora of defensively minded midfielder's we already have.

An attacking midfielder is what we need......................as well as a striker, 2 centre halves, a right back, a right winger, a left winger and a keeper that doesn't have holes where his hands should be.

The Jigsaw remains far from complete.

It will be Wellenswho makes way as he and Licester have said he is here to get match fitness and if he does this and helps Reo gel in with the team thanks and all the best. The signing will be denied by all parties soon and he will sign for palace as thats were he was born.

well its great to see a club build for the future. So much better than one of those has been clubs who sign journeymen and seven or eight loanees in panic.
