Keeper Henderson Set to Become Eighth Loan
Monday, 15th Oct 2012 11:25

Town have signed West Ham keeper Stephen Henderson on loan. The Blues are expected to confirm the deal on Tuesday but we understand that the Irishman has been at the club today.

Henderson was one of the trio of Portsmouth players the Blues targeted in January prior to his switch to Upton Park. Despite lengthy negotiations, the Blues were unable to agree a deal for any of the three.

In March he joined the Hammers on a temporary loan with a view to a permanent deal in the summer when he signed a three-year contract. However, since then he has made only two starts in the Capital One Cup.

Republic of Ireland U21 international keeper Henderson had joined Pompey from Bristol City in the summer of 2011 having failed to usurp ex-England international David James at Ashton Gate.

Henderson, who stands 6ft 4in tall, had previously spent time on loan at York, Weymouth, Aldershot and Yeovil, and the Glovers’ Player of the Year award in 2010/11.

The Dubliner comes from a goalkeeping dynasty. Grandfather Paddy played for Shamrock Rovers in the 1960s, his father, also named Stephen, played, managed and coached at various sides in the League of Ireland.

His uncle Dave also played in the League of Ireland, for amongst others Shamrock Rovers, and another uncle, Wayne, currently plays for Preston and the Republic of Ireland.

Scott Loach and Arran Lee-Barrett are the club's current senior keepers with the former Watford man widely criticised for his performance in the recent 2-1 home defeat to Cardiff City.

Town, who signed free agent Nigel Reo-Coker on a three-month short-term deal on Saturday, already have Massimo Luongo, Daryl Murphy, Guirane N'Daw, Danny Higginbotham, DJ Campbell, Bilel Mohsni and Richie Wellens on loan.

Clubs are permitted to name five domestic loan players in a matchday squad with Henderson the sixth. Murphy (Celtic) and N'Daw (St Etienne) don't count to this total with their parent clubs from 'foreign' associations.

Part of me thought this isn't bad news because of how frustrating it is to see players make basic errors, and one of the key positions is a decent goalkeaper, which I do think Loach is but we're in a position where we cant afford mistakes and keep losing silly points. At the same time if Loach is currently suffering from a lack of confidence or there are parts of his game where he is struggling, for example claiming crosses then surely we have to try and work on these things?, Jewell went and bought him to the club, with Watford fans already pinpointing his inablity to claim crosses he can't just then go and ditch him after a couple of bad games, did he not scout him or something? it's him and his goalkeaping coaches jobs to boost him, make him feel valuable and improve his all round game so he doesn't make mistakes. I'll welcome any players to the club, but all these three month loans sound a little fishy to me, god knows what Jewell's next plan is once all these players leave, same again in January?

He wont be no 1 for long though after all he has signed a three year contract with hammers in the summer so he's not going to be a cheap buy if it was to go that way

When PJ admitted that he made mistakes in the trasfer window with loan signings and signing 'experienced' players I welcomed his admission and looked forward to him targeting young players.

However comments in the last few weeks have made me question Jewells ability to be a football managet..yet alone the manager of my club which I love.

1/ More loan signings - as people have mentioned this is a policy which has seen N****ch relegated as well as other clubs

2/ His judgement that there was little wrong with the scouting system which he inherited. Unless you're a footballing dinosaur and that that there is no talent outside of the UK then he is quite clearly wrong.

3/ His continued assessment that 'everyone is looking at the same players' or 'that teams are waiting for the Premier League clubs to sort out their squads'. Well look elsewhere then.

Just go Jewell

Loach is a poor buy who is no better than what we already had in ALB. It is a pity it has taken his dreadful performance against Cardiff to enable PJ to realise this. Did PJ not wonder why Watford were so ready to let him go?
Maybe this man will prove to be a better bet and the loan will lead to something more permanent. Time will tell.

Why do people keep saying this loan is view to a permanent in January? we couldn't afford him in the summer at a knock down rate by Portsmouth so why do you think we will afford him in January? We couldn't afford wages let alone the transfer fee from West Ham so lets stop being silly that he will be here after the loan finishes. I still think PJ should have given Loach more time to build, he was hailed as a saint for his brilliant (yes brilliant) penalty save a few weeks ago make a couple of mistakes (one of which I think the defenders x 2 were also to blame to let the attacker get round the back) then his a villain some ITFC so called fans have very short memories!! Lets get of the kids back poor lad I'm sure he didn't mean to make the mistakes and he will learn from them but by the looks of it won't be given chance to make amends which is typical of PJ policies

To all the moaners out there as anyone thought that jewel has brought him in as a number 2 goalkeeper because yes we do need one of them as if loach gets injured or suspended then we have lb in goal and then we are totally screwed I just hope we can get some of these players we have on loan on a permanent contract in January !!!

Yep Henderson is that good Portsmouth went down and if PJ keeps fxxk ing about thats where we are heading, i was all for giving PJ a chance but all these loan signings have just lost me now. When i hear people saying Jewell has lost the plot i try to ignore it but its getting harder as each day passes. As for Henderson he didnt want to come here he had a chance let him sit on the bench at westham another player getting match time at our players expence.

What the hell is going on we would not pay decent wages in the last window so now we are having to fork out a fortune in loan fees! a club in crisis! the blind leading the blind.

Why is it all about Jewell and his job?

Stop messing with people's lives and go back home to Bradford.

This all beggars belief, Jewell 'I brought in too many loan players and older players, I have sat down with Marcus Evans and have agreed to sign players for the future, to build a new young, talented squad'

What a joke....Jewell is panic buying loan players to save his own arse, because if he loses this job he'll struggle to get another job in the Ryman League.

Scott Loach made 2 errors against Cardiff and will now have till January to dwell on them and make them worse for him!! We have good young players but they are been pushed out by a load of disinterested journeymen who won't want to play in Division 1....which is where Mr Jewell is taking us this season. The cynic in me thinks this may be the grand plan!

Jewell out NOW!!!!!!

Hey trust PJ he knows what he is doing! Henderson is the better keeper

There is no way Henderson has joined on loan to warm the bench, he is doing that at West Ham.

He has only joined because he was promised games which means number one keeper!

We should have realised what we had in Fulop.

I tend to back most signings but this one is utterly pointless. I know Loach made an error against Cardiff but he got us a point against Brigton and Barnsley and I wouldn't drop him because of that. Unless PJ can see an injury or suspension coming to one of our other two keepers i cant see him playing much.
On another note at least there are a few more positive messages on here than there has been, just.

we are now officially a sh*t club, the club is dying in front of my own eyes, 8 loans, what is the point, what does it say about the current keepers??

Deeply disappointing news. Loach is no world beater but this will canon his confidence and all the players watching into hypespace. We are weak as fcuk all over the park and yet another short term loan thats not much much better than what we already have. As a Jewell supporter since the start Ive totally lost faith in him and though a little way into the season relatively speaking cant for the life of me seeing him get us out of trouble. For the first time in donkeys years I truely fear and feel that we are on the way down the longer he stays.

ALB and Loach will benefit from another keeper joining the circus.. initially may feel like noses have been pushed out.. as for someone suggesting Fulop was possibly better 'He wasnt and isnt'

For all you loach lovers ask any Watford fan, he cost them over 10 games last season and I got warned when we signed him!! Don't you also wonder why he was dropped last season and sold for £300k?! No confidence to come and claim anything just sits on his line!! Has already cost us points, good shot stopped but put a cross in and he's no where!! Lee-Barrett is better!!!

Been away for abit ..Wow , more dodgy loans than Wonga.com - Cannot for the life of me understand the strategy here - Build for the future , bring on the youth - try sign some experience , get rid of dodgy buys , go get some more loanees
I am not saying these are 'bad players' and they 'may' help us - but what happens in January - The club needs some stability and planning - this is knee jerk panic - Fun though - How many keepers has PJ bought in now ? Also great business for the local hotels Cmon Town - Odds on guessing the line up for Hull City

Ive just got home from work to read this utter nonsense. What is going on at our club. People in the world of football must be laughing there heads off. It hurts me to say this, but my club "IPSWICH TOWN" are a joke. Its is a disrace what it happening there at the moment. 8 players on loan, a manager and coaching staff who have no clue and a owner who hasnt got a clue how to run a club. All concerned with ipswich town at the moment should be ashamed of themselves.

A totally unnecessary signing by Paul Jewell. Norwich were relegated partly due to the number of loan signings - and Ipswich are heading the same way. Players on short-term loan deals have no loyality to ITFC and are not going to care if we are losing a game!

We need permenant signings with wage relegation clauses in their contracts to make sure they fight for their place and to win matches.

I wonder if the 3 month loan deals are only being signed up to so that a new manager can have some time in the new transfer window!?

It's ITFC but is anyone bothered anymore when they're all loans and stopgaps?
