Keeper Henderson Set to Become Eighth Loan
Monday, 15th Oct 2012 11:25

Town have signed West Ham keeper Stephen Henderson on loan. The Blues are expected to confirm the deal on Tuesday but we understand that the Irishman has been at the club today.

Henderson was one of the trio of Portsmouth players the Blues targeted in January prior to his switch to Upton Park. Despite lengthy negotiations, the Blues were unable to agree a deal for any of the three.

In March he joined the Hammers on a temporary loan with a view to a permanent deal in the summer when he signed a three-year contract. However, since then he has made only two starts in the Capital One Cup.

Republic of Ireland U21 international keeper Henderson had joined Pompey from Bristol City in the summer of 2011 having failed to usurp ex-England international David James at Ashton Gate.

Henderson, who stands 6ft 4in tall, had previously spent time on loan at York, Weymouth, Aldershot and Yeovil, and the Glovers’ Player of the Year award in 2010/11.

The Dubliner comes from a goalkeeping dynasty. Grandfather Paddy played for Shamrock Rovers in the 1960s, his father, also named Stephen, played, managed and coached at various sides in the League of Ireland.

His uncle Dave also played in the League of Ireland, for amongst others Shamrock Rovers, and another uncle, Wayne, currently plays for Preston and the Republic of Ireland.

Scott Loach and Arran Lee-Barrett are the club's current senior keepers with the former Watford man widely criticised for his performance in the recent 2-1 home defeat to Cardiff City.

Town, who signed free agent Nigel Reo-Coker on a three-month short-term deal on Saturday, already have Massimo Luongo, Daryl Murphy, Guirane N'Daw, Danny Higginbotham, DJ Campbell, Bilel Mohsni and Richie Wellens on loan.

Clubs are permitted to name five domestic loan players in a matchday squad with Henderson the sixth. Murphy (Celtic) and N'Daw (St Etienne) don't count to this total with their parent clubs from 'foreign' associations.

This is the final proof (as if it were needed) that Jewell has lost the plot - completely.
Of huge concern is the fact that we now have 8 loan signings (correct me if I have lost count) - a LUDICROUS SITUATION for any Club to have.

What happened to the (only last season) theory that players need time to 'gel' before you can expect anything from / or as a team ?? - here we now have a multitude of loanees that are on varying length contracts, some of which may never even get to play together because of this.

Since Jewell has been here he has made one disastrous decision after another - with no one above him clued up enough to help, advise, or whatever about it.

Remember Joe Royal and George Burley's approach .... if you outscore the opposition it does not matter how many you concede!! A keeper is not going to score you goals to win matches!!!

We have 8 loans, more midfielders than needed and a strike force not capable of putting the ball in the net (not enough anyway)!! Serious investment in quality strikers needed.

If you drop Loach, then you need to drop Cresswell, who was also to blame for Cardiff's second goal, as he let the runner go. You do not drop somebody off the back of one bad game, and you certainly shouldn't sign somebody to replace him based off that one game. Let's also not forget that Henderson has been equally 'dodgy' in his career. While I don't think Loach has set the world on fire, there's no guarantee that he'd be any improvement at all.

I see the poll on the side of my screen about Reo-Coker, and it gave me this thought. I think that individually, the players we're signing on loan are good. Campbell, Murphy, Moshni, Luongo, N'Daw, etc, are all good players. You can't even say that they're not commited - Higginbotham's reaction to Cardiff's winner spoke of somebody who was hugely passionate about us winning that game. It's the huge number that the problem lies with. It removes all sense of stability and continuity and may see us in trouble in January and the summer, should we stay up.

All in all, in my opinion, we require somebody who can approach this club from a new angle, with a fresh perspective. Somebody who can evaluate the squad, free from preconceptions. That somebody will be a new manager, whenever he arrives.

I don't get this one. So Loach made a couple of mistakes, show me a goal keeper and I'll show you someone who makes mistakes. I'd rather have someone in goal who wants to play for us than someone who doesn't. Henderson turned us down to go play reserve football for Wet Spam let him stay there.
Those that think Loach isn't good enough are morons and haven't a clue.

The Blame for this mess lays totally with Evans he employed a complete numpty. People on here celebrating the signing of Reo-Coker who couldnt get a deal anywhere else. Now a keeper who didnt want to come in the first place. Every player we sign theres always plenty on here saying good signing well why aint they playing now, why arent we up the table. The club lacks any plan or direction wake up all we are going in one direction. Sheepshanks has a lot to answer for dont see him at Portman Road these days. Move over Disneyworld, Portman Road is the new fantasy land.

We only signed Loach after Henderson turned us down so surely Henderson is will be first choice keeper (I hope so).

WickedBlue - i agree with the point you make about Loach wanting to play for us and Henderson not but i do have my doubts about SL. Its not the Cardiff errors, everyone has off days but he doesnt command his area enough for me.
I would love him to prove me wrong and i personally would stick with him, unless this is a possible permanent deal for Henderson (which seems unlikely).
If it isnt then i dont see the point of getting him in.

This loan situation is now just beyond a joke. We must have nearly as many loans players as we do under contract!

Its ludicrous that we sign a goalie on loan who we couldnt get permanently meanwhile the guy we DID get permanently and is committed to the club will now be sidelined which will do his confidence the world of good!

Sorry to go off topic (sort of!) but I also hear that N'Daws year long loan is going to be riped up as he's leaving the club! WTF!!! What is all that about!!!

It feels like the club is in complete and utter meltdown. What has happened to the club!!

All I do know is all these many loans in the last month will shatter already fragile morale, surely whatever team spirit was here in a small knit squad has also been shattered.

Plus how many of these loans are actually match fit? When did Reo-Coker last play 90 minutes? By the time he's fit he will be off as per DJ Campbell!!

I wonder if we can claim back some PPI on all these loans.

Have the club actually confirmed this signing. Couldn't see anything on the website.

Bobblehat - you're right - but the shortfall in Loach commanding his area/ or not, is something that could/should be possible to rectify with good Coaching.

Quite a common fault with keepers at all levels, but usually 'Coached' successfully.

for gods sake. how many more people are going yo sau he didnt want to come here in jan. it wasnt that he didnt want to come, he just wanted more money than we were willing to pay him. how many of you people would turn down a job paying more than you getting in ur present 1 for instance. as for those suggesting that the errors loach made in the cardiff game are the only ones hes made clearly havent seen many of the games so far. he simply, at this moment in time, is no better than alb. having said that, im not sure id have signed another keeper at this time.

h32. I now find myself agreeing with nearly everything you post on here, my. Our club will soon be known as IPSWICH LOAN F.C. This once proud, revered club, not just in England, but across Europe is now just becoming a laughing stock. Desperate, desperate times. PJ & his coaching staff OUT.

Can someone try and explain exactly what the position is with N,daw, i thought from all the reports that he was playing well, and really fitting in well, whats this all about him leaving the club?

Utterly speechless...I still think there's something going on behind the scenes that the board aren't telling us, this has to be a record of loans in a 2 month period!

I can't help thinking...no my brain has gone numb.

Look anyone would look dodgy behind our defence. We invite trouble and therefore invite mistakes, Loach does not look great because the team are putting so much pressure by dropping deep. There is no need for us to be signing another keeper on loan, it is a bit of a joke. It undermines confidence, we should have 1st and 2nd choice and a youngster coming through surely that is enough.

Although I do reckon if we do well over next few months a few of these loans will become permanent and the contracts situations becoming resolved. Although I am not so worries about Lee Martin as for a winger / forward he does not create or score nearly enough.

h32 - not so sure, he is experienced enough by now to have sorted this IMO , but as i say , i would really love him to be here for years and hope he develops into the keeper we all want him to be.
Does seem strange about N'Daw if its true. Im not happy with all these loans , unless several of them turn into permanent signings.
Personally think we need a settled side ASAP, and lets stop all the to-ing and fro-ing.
