Jewell to Speak to Evans In Morning
Wednesday, 24th Oct 2012 00:43

Town boss Paul Jewell says he will speak to club owner Marcus Evans in the morning, as he does after every game. The Liverpudlian, who missed his post-match press conference, confirmed that he is still the Blues’ manager despite earlier reports claiming that he had resigned.

Jewell told the club site: “I’m Ipswich Town manager at the moment and I will be in the morning.

"I’ll be at the training ground tomorrow and will speak to Marcus then, as I do after every game.”

Regarding the 2-1 defeat to his former club Derby County, he said: “We started brightly enough and were the better team in the first-half but we conceded another bad goal just before half-time.

“One mistake led to another and you could see the confidence drain out of the players. We didn’t really threaten in the second half and then to concede right at the end again for the second game in succession was a real kick in the teeth.

“That’s 15 points we have let go now this season from winning positions, but I can’t keep saying the same things.

“It’s really difficult to pick yourself up and go again but that’s what you have to do as a professional. There’s another game Saturday and everyone has to focus on that and getting the club out of the run we are on.”

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Jewell's assistant Chris Hutchings - who will be at Wednesday evening's Supporters Club AGM along with chief executive Simon Clegg and skipper Carlos Edwards - revealed owner Evans is currently in Barbados.

Reminds me of "Mike Bassett-England Manager".
Only we are not England and our team is full of loans.
Want to get a player fit? Lets loan them to Ipswich?
What a farce. Norwich fans must be rolling around on the floor in streaming laughter.

Just looked at Paul Jewell on Wiki....

Paul Steven Jewell (born 28 September 1964) is a former English footballer who was until recently the manager of Ipswich Town.

Read what you will into it. Sacked in the morning, sacked in the morrrnnning!!

Jewell will probably be given the game on Saturday by the sound of this. In the unlikely event of us winning he will be given a couple more games and I just don't believe he can turn this ship around.

Evans needs to be decisive and make the correct decision i.e. bring in a new man. We are only going one way with Jewell. Evans intentions for this club will be in question if he allows this rot to continue.

We all wish wiki was accurate elytractorboy....
Nice to see there isn't one single fan left supporting Jewell. Even staunch supporters (and I was one of them) have switched sides.
Lost the fans, the dressing room and if we continue like this our status in the Championship.
Norwich in the Prem and us in League 1. And I bet we struggle in League 1 with our seriously dodgy defence.

Its a bit like Mike Bassett England manager expect Bassett played 4-4-2!, could do with Gary Wackett at the back

I'm so fed up with whats happening to our club at the moment. Its embarrassing enough that we charge high on the day ticket prices without the fact that we have dished up such poor football since magilton went.
Macus evans, clegg and the whole management team must share the blame for the dire situation we are in

I would anticipate that tonight's hollow whirlwind will be followed by an uncomfortable sense of 'normality' tomorrow morning. I doubt Paul Jewell will resign and I doubt there will be any further decision on his future ahead of the Sheffield Wednesday game, such is the bizarre habit of sleepy, unresponsive apathy our club seems to have developed with regard to making the big decisions - or, at least, the right big decisions.

Regardless of what happens, I see very little in the way of hope for Paul Jewell now. The local press clearly turned on him tonight, much as they did with Jim Magilton in 2009, and we all know what happened there. The attendance and atmosphere against Derby on Tuesday was symptomatic of over three years of failure at Ipswich which seems to go right down to the roots, and regretfully, I doubt even a managerial shuffle will make any difference.

I generally dislike the negativity one often encounters on fansites. But let's be honest - sometimes, anything else is just deluded ignorance.

Harry Redknapp will be new Ipswich manager.
He has agreed the deal in principle but needs to iron out the last few details. Source from within the club

The more I think about it the more depressing the whole situation looks - if Jewel goes tomorrow or in a couple of weeks (would take a miracle to turn it around now) do we think Simon and Marcus will make the right choice of replacement? (Maybe third time lucky) Other than Klug coming back I don't see another good decision that's been made at the club recently - thoroughly fed up with it - but like a mug I'll be there Saturday chearing/shouting at the lads hoping for a win from somewhere!!!

I have never read a sentence that rings so true with the core problem of this club that you summed up in a few words. That statement rings true to all the home fans that attend portman road.. yes your the reason why its quiet.. you do have a choice!! that statement was aimed at the fans before the dire situation we find ourselves in now!

If we lose the next game the next manager whoever he is will have a titanic job to stop this team being relegated so whoever it is would have to be ok with managing in the first division after going through relegation and what decent manager is prepared to do that? It's now very late, after the game on saturday will ,I fear, be to late.COYB

He deserves to be sacked, has no control over his players on or off the field.Im seriously worried now regarding Marcus Evans, this is his third manager and the club is in a brutal state. Its time the fans made themslves heard and stopped tolerating the way Clegg is treating us like little schoolboys,If I had my way,Clegg Evans,Jewell all his coaches and three quarters of the squad would be sacked and replaced with more competant people who value this club

Jewell if you have any respect for itfc.. Then please walk, rather than being sacked. At least that way we'll save a bit of cash to try and get us out of this mess.

When Burley was sacked* I thought it's just one of those things with the financial problems at the time.

When Magilton was sacked* I was upset with those campaigning against him. I felt both supporters and press. I was saddened about a lot of what happened but accepted things weren't going well at the time.

When Keane was appointed I had mixed feelings - I didn't like the guy but felt he'd be able to attract some good players. From the moment he started the demolition ball through the squad I knew it was a mistake. I was relieved when he was finally sacked* although I only called for his head just before. I'm a patient person and don't like calling for a resignation but we all have a breaking point.

With Jewell I wasn't a fan of his when first appointed but accepted he might be able to steady the ship. Over time I grew to like if not admire him. He does seem a genuine, honest nice guy which compounds the difficulty with calling for his resignation. I feel he's now beyond the point of being able to salvage the season. There's clearly something wrong at the club and the manager is responsible for signing, selecting, and motivating players. He's now beyond the tipping point and should now be sacked*.

(* "sacked" includes walk away, resign, mutual consent, and any other euthamism the club may use)

So roughly 2 years ago we'd gone 9 games without a win and the manager's failure looked obvious. We are in the exact same state!

The only good thing is that the ONLY way is up and there are several teams in striking distance who haven't done much better than us ... amazingly. With the right decision today, the season will look entirely different by the end of November.
The ballsy appointment of someone of the ilk of Martin Allen would do me. Secretly we are mostly pleased that the game ended as it did last night as it surely catalyses a decision.
Do the rigth thing by the club and the fans today Marcus Evans. You know what you have to do...do it without delay and put everyone out of their misery.

We are doomed if we don't beat Sheffield Wednesday.
Our club is ruined, Evans keeps on bringing in the wrong managers, clearly!!
I don't know what the answer is we just need a good communicator of a manager who can get your players playing for their club. This is all happening again just like when that idiot Roy Keane was in charge. We need a manager who has a footballing and a tactical brain who can motivate his players. make them want to play for this club again.
It's not too late to do so!! Mr Evans just be very sure on your choice of manager and PLEASE make it 3rd time lucky. Jewell has to ho NOW!!!!!!
