Town Confirm Jewell's Exit
Wednesday, 24th Oct 2012 13:00

Town have confirmed that manager Paul Jewell has left the club "by mutual consent".

A statement from the Blues reads: "Ipswich Town Football Club have today parted company with Paul Jewell by mutual consent.

"Jewell, who has been in charge at Portman Road since January 2011, finalised matters with club owner Marcus Evans and chief executive Simon Clegg this morning and all parties agreed that he should leave his post as manager."

Owner Marcus Evans added: “Since he first walked through the door here, no one has worked harder to bring success to this football club than Paul Jewell.

“Unfortunately his outstanding commitment has not been rewarded by results on the pitch and having spoken with Paul at length, we feel it’s best for him and the club if we go our separate ways.

“I’m bitterly disappointed — as is Paul — that it has not worked out as we had hoped when he became our manager 21 months ago and I would like to put on record my thanks for his services to the club and wish him every success in the future.”

Jewell himself said: “I could not have had any more support than I have done from Marcus Evans and Simon Clegg. I have enjoyed working with both of them in my time as Ipswich Town manager.

“We all know that football is a results business though and I’ve never hidden from the fact that our results have not been good enough.

“It’s been a privilege to be manager of such a fantastic football club and I want to thank the staff and the supporters for the backing they have given me in my time at the club and wish Ipswich Town the best of fortunes ahead.”

Chief executive Simon Clegg said: “I am bitterly disappointed that we have parted company with Paul, but we accept that this is in our respective best interests.

“Paul has worked tirelessly to try and deliver the levels of success on the pitch which we all aspire to but the recent results and our position in the table required us to make a change.

“The search for a new manager of this football club is well under way and I am confident that we will find the right man to get the best out of the players, both individually and collectively, and lead the team to future success.

“The immediate focus is to ensure we secure three points on Saturday and in this regards I have asked Chris Hutchings to take over as caretaker manager.”

Town have called a press conference with chief executive Simon Clegg for 3pm.

People became suspicious after a trail of Chocolate hobnobs was seem leading from the managers door towards Ipswich station shortly after Paul Jewell arrived for work today.

Sources stated "it's the only way we can get him to move, we changed the locks last night, but the cleaners were in this morning and he drifted straight in, once he see's hobnobs it's like a 5 year old with a packet of pringles - so he'll be out the way soon enough!"

Unfortunately this needed to happen as the PLAYERS were not performing for him and many of those can hang their heads in shame. I do feel sorry for PJ but it was time. When Keane left I was relieved and pleased that Town could move on but feel differently with PJ. IMO he worked hard and was unable for a combination of reasons to get the players to perform regularly for him.
Best of luck in your next role Paul.

Plea to Mr Evans. Please get some help from someone who knows football, and understands this Club better than your previous advisors to help you make this next critical appointment. Get it wrong again again and disaster looms, far greater than being bottom of 2nd tier in October.

Gutted - I honestly thought he would do really well with us.

I hope he don't give up on management as he can be a great manager.

Now hoping for Owen coyle we don't need another manager that's been out of the game for too long.
Please not curbs couldn't take poor results with hoof ball

Just want someone to get a decent shape to our team and play people in their correct positions. Once in place everyone should know what to do and pass n move for the full 90 minutes. Goodbye Mr Jewel.

Seems the club can surprise you after all - didn't think they'd have the bottle to do it, even after the farce of the last 24 hours.

To my knowledge, the last two defeats have meant that Paul Jewell departs with a lower win percentage than Roy Keane. Sadly that is the stark reality for him - unlike Keane, he was inherently more likeable, but it seems, not more capable.

Farewell, PJ - best of luck in your future endeavours, but your time very much had come at Portman Road. I'm not sure I have faith in the powers that be to make the right decision when it comes to hiring a replacement, but at least they're halfway there.

Thanks for the effort Paul and Co. but you were sadly well well short of what we expected (I never thought you were the right man for the job). Best of luck.

Thanks for the effort Paul but it just didn't work.
Just hope the new manager is someone who likes to play football; Swansea etc are a lesson to everyone that you don't need to hoof it to win matches

Let's try and bring in Doug Freedman - he still hasn't signed on the dotted line for Bolton yet and he's a young and hungry manager. Just look at where he's taken palace.

Thanks PJ for lifting us when you first came in and bringing the feel good factor back after Keane. Shame it didn't last, many of us wanted it to work out. All the best for the future.

Billy Davies next please.

This is definitely for the best. I like PJ, however 7 points in 12 games and 4 points from safety is not acceptable. I wish him all the best.

ME and SC need to be very careful with the next appointment. Get it right and we have every chance of resurrecting our season.
