Clegg: Long List of 34 Names
Wednesday, 24th Oct 2012 16:27

Chief executive Simon Clegg says Town already have a long list of potential successors to Paul Jewell 34 names long. Clegg was speaking at a press conference after Jewell’s time at Town was ended by mutual consent earlier today.

Clegg said: “There is a process under way at the moment. I’m not going to go into any details on that. We want to appoint a replacement as quickly as possible.

“In the short-term, particularly given where we are in the table at this moment in time, the most important thing is picking up three points on Saturday, which is why I have asked Chris Hutchings to take on the role of caretaker-manager for that game and beyond if necessary.

“Until such time as we appoint a permanent replacement manager, Chris Hutchings will be in charge.“

Former Charlton and West Ham boss Alan Curbishley is widely believed to be the leading candidate to be Jewell’s replacement, but Clegg wouldn’t be drawn on specific candidates: “There are a lot of people out there who are in the frame.

“We have a long list of about 34 names. We’re in the process of whittling that down to a short list and are hoping to get to a position where we can make a formal announcement as soon as possible.

“When you find yourself in a situation like this, first of all we’ve pulled together a list of names ourselves, in terms of the owner, myself and the owner’s advisors, but a number of people have applied. The phone has been red hot since midday today.”

Ex-Crystal Palace boss Dougie Freedman, whose move to Bolton appears to have hit a stumbling block, is also another manager understood to have been approached by the Blues, but again Clegg wouldn’t be drawn: “There is wild speculation out there and a number of names have been mentioned, but you wouldn’t expect me to comment on any one individual.”

Other bosses likely to be linked are the likes of Alex McLeish, Owen Coyle, Billy Davies, Steve Kean and Mick McCarthy, while Clegg says there has been interest from interested parties both from the UK and abroad.

Give Paul some credit for walking out by mutual concent and not just looking for compensation, shows that he actually did care for this club. It was just unfortunate it didn't work out for him

Take out all the obvious unemployed names that always surface and I wonder how many, if any, that leaves. I really hope we dont go down the 'got teams promoted' route again. Lets have some original ideas and look at thoseIN WORK who are doing a good job.

What the hell, make that 35 names - I may as well give it a go. What's the worst that could happen - I could go 7 months without a home win, but I probably won't reach "tipping point"!

What a day so far ! We are assuming everyone on the list is willing to work with Clegg . There cannot be many clubs where players turn up to sign and then leave without doing so . This may become a difficult appointement and with Clegg at the helm i doubt we will get a number 1 candidate .Time will tell , prefer a new CEO as well please !

Nooooooooooooooooooooooo !!!
Not Steve Kean or Alex McLeish, that would be jumping from the frying pan. I'm not surprised Freedman has been mentioned and that appointment with Bolton having seemingly halted all of a sudden. He could be a good punt and he's young. Love Micky Mills but he's lining himself for a Director of Football position at PR, if his conversation of Eadio Suffolk was anything to go by.

Hopefully that list consists of new CEO's as well. Personally for me it has to be Karl Robinson, will bring something new the club and generally a great prospect

a lot of dross on that out of work list and most linked to us .

I agree with the not Steve kean posts.
For me I would like someone who believes in passing football.
Redknapp, burley or as an absolute outside bet Kevin keegan. Poyet would be good as would forests manager whose name escapes me
How is Andy Thorne second favourite???
If we have to a 'direct' manager then McCarthy please at least he has a proven promotion record...
Davies at a push...

So much for those who frequently suggest that no one would want to come to ITFC !
