Butcher Dismisses Link
Thursday, 25th Oct 2012 16:20

Blues legend Terry Butcher says he knows nothing about speculation that he has spoken to Town regarding the management position vacated by Paul Jewell yesterday.

The Inverness Caledonian Thistle boss said: "It's one of my old clubs, the club I started playing football with, so it's nice to be mentioned in terms of that, but that's all it is, just paper talk."

He hasn't exactly dismissed it then, seems more like deflecting the question so as to not fuel speculation!

Sorry but with a managerial record like his butcher is someone I really don't want.... I know he is an ex blue and I admired him enormously as a player but not got the pedigree that we need in my view...
Know I will get slated for this but it's just an honest opinion. If he got it then I would get behind him like every town manager, just have my doubts...

Not entirely bothered about this. Would like to see George back but others may disagree. Whoever it may be, I will be fully behind them!

Damn Telford Blue I am glad you weren't making the decision to employ Bobby Robson then considering his record before joining us was far worse.

Dont think he will get the job , but he would be my number one choice for many reasons

I think that his time in Scotland has improved him as a manager, and it would be harsh to judge him purely on his record in England.

I think that there are certainly much worse candidates out there!

Great player, true IFTC legend. Don't even consider the job, you don't want to damage your legendary status here

Butcher is nothing near good enough to be Town manager.

Yes you are quite right Wicked Blue.... and the great man had no success with us for 3 seasons.... It wasnt until 1972-73 that we won anything after joining us in 1969....
I am glad you are prepared to give Butcher 3 seasons....
Times were different then... I have the feeling that if the Great John Cobbold were chairman now and came out with his 'no wine in the boardroom' constituting a disaster quote at this present time it may not meet with the same reaction...
I would love to see the right person be given that long and love the fact that people are talking about 5 and 10 year plans... just for me Terry Butcher is not my choice. Should he get it he will get my unequivocal support.... as will anyone else and the team....

I love the way most of you judge Terry Butcher on here, telling us he's not good enough. Priceless fans :)
We'll get whoever Marcus Evans can do a deal with.......get used to the idea!

Coventry, Sunderland, Brentford. Yes he's done alright in Scotland, but his managerial record in England is abysmal.

Anyone but Megson please!!!

To be fair to Terry Butcher, his management record over the past 4 seasons has been infinitely superior to that of Alan Curbishley...

Gary Megson's odds have shortened alarmingly: now 3:1 with Coral and third favourite behind Curbs and McCarthy. Please, anyone but him

Stick to what you're best at, Butch. You are an Ipso legend, don't bugger that up.

I also really hope that the megson odds shortening are not a sign.... I'd have butch 20 times before I'd have him...

People will point to his record, however his time at Caley has been excellent. Sometimes it takes a manager quite a while to learn the role. Don't think he'd be top of my list but i'd certainly consider him.

Not sure about Butch, I agree that if it went wrong then it could tarnish a legend!

Id like Arry but I doubt thats a go'r now

Cubishly yes but only with Matt Holland who he could groom to eventually take over.

A long shot would be Michael Appleton, He is god down here in Pompey for what hes managed to do with bugger all. Id like to see what he could do with some money.

I and various other posters believe that PJ is a real nice guy but alas that obviously got us nowhere. Now is the time for a no nosense attitude and Mick McCarthy fits the bill.
